douggggy
Did you duck? Or a james bond style sideways slide just as it bounces inches over your head? I make light of it presuming you were 'A' OK weren't you? sideways slide...... not quite .... `dropped it down a notch and gave it a handful...` (one for the kids!) eek
Funny you should say that. The estate was originally billed as executive country living. The first few sold for high £300,000s. Then they found they couldn't sell so started discounting and the BTL and MOD moved in and bought up around three quarters of the estate. It is now known locally as 'little Catterick' after the nearby army camp. Also coming from Darlington I feel that it is essential to point out the total crapness of the location of this estate. The estate is slap bang in the middle of nowhere adjunct to the A1M. Sadly the nearest A1M junction is 6 miles away and 12 minutes drive away (probably near 20 in rush hour due to the sheer quality of Darlington's road network) and to be honest so is any other road that will take you anywhere you may really want to go. I will say that as a town I do like Darlington. Having previously lived in both elsewhere in the North East and in both South Bucks and Kent its the nicest place we've lived in. Having a 5 bedroom house and a mortgage with only 5 digits in it may make me slightly biased tho.
fdk
+1 What happens after the day and it's not sold? They demolish it presumably...... Wouldn't that be an interesting next step. Unsold houses being demolished cos no-one's preared to "make me an offer I can't refuse"....
lets get it right
lovely, another new build 20 meters from a motorway. Driving past swindon i notice they built a huge new estate next to the M4, for people who like 24hr a day road noise. Seems that the only place you can build new estates these days is next to a motorway. Why anyone buys them is beyond me. A new estate in Bracknell is under construction at the moment - 1500 houses in total. Right next to the A329M. I've stopped there a couple of times over the last couple of years to have a nose around the show houses ... you almost need ear plugs. I can't imagine sitting out in the garden reading the paper on a summer's day - the noise would drive you bonkers. In a sane society the opposite would be true - all motorways to be built in cuttings with the spoil moved to the sides to create berms and no new housing within a mile - or something like that. But no, nimbyism is so entrenched that the only place you can build is right next to a 6 lane highway.

Having a 5 bedroom house and a mortgage with only 5 digits in it may make me slightly biased tho. The estate is elevated above the motorway and the noise from the motorway is minor but constant. It is actually in the best part of Darlington imo as once you start heading out towards Barnard Castle there are some very pretty villages at reasonable prices. Not that I would live in that estate. Darlington is actually a very nice place, people seem to get it confused with industrial towns/cities like Middlesborough whereas a closer comparison would be somewhere like Northallerton, small market town with good quality shopping area and nice housing. Oh Give Me A Home
An agent near my other half in North Wales has just done this too - they've changed about half of all their listings to start with "***** YOU HAVE 7 DAYS TO MAKE ME AN OFFER I CAN NOT REFUSE FROM THE 11TH TO THE 18TH OCTOBER *****". What the hell does that even mean? Do they think people won't make offers any other time? And what exactly is "an offer I can not refuse"? Actually, for North Wales I think that means: any offer whatsoever. The place is royally screwed - agents have started knocking 10-20% off houses that have been on the market for over two years, and they're still not selling. Oh dear... seems like their 7 day limit didn't work... All of this agents listings have now changed to "YOU HAVE 7 DAYS TO MAKE ME AN OFFER I CAN NOT REFUSE FROM THE 8TH TO THE 15TH NOVEMBER".
