  1. It's not only joiners

4,000 public sector jobs go in Northern Ireland

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-15377610

The weakness of the private sector combined with ongoing cuts in the public sector means the current jobless total which has topped 60,000 is likely to continue to rise in the months ahead.

Jim Fitzpatrick ,Economics and business editor - i thought he was the BBC NI political man? Is he qualified in some way to tell us the ins and outs of the NI economy?

  2. Minister announces £3.25m help for first time buyers

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-15375578

If the prospective home buyers have a 5% deposit and can secure a 75% mortgage, Co-Ownership Housing will finance the 20% shortfall.

The scheme hopes to help around 100 families purchase a home.

Properties up to a maximum of £175,000 will be available for purchase through FirstBuyNI and as the buyers' earnings increase they can move to full ownership by increasing their equity stake.

This makes my blood boil. If FTB want to purchase then whats stopping them from saving for a few years?!!! I do it! What the hell is another 100 sales going to do? The market is on its ****. Just another exmaple of money being wasted by the clowns on the hill

  3. He is HPCs arch enemy. He has large property investments and runs several property companies. He talks utter bull shit. His company even had a house price index up until early the year when the figures started going negative it suddenly dissapeared! Basically he's the biggest VI there is.

Doesn't say much for the BBC then if they bring him on to tell people whats happening with prices

  4. The levels of InvestNI subsidies out there are truly staggering with the jobs "created" highly mobile. I'd love to know what length commercial leases some of these InvestNI secured companies are on (Allen&Overy, NYSE, Herbert Smith, CITI et al). I think it would give you an idea of the longevity we are talking. If the same lease isn't being paid by InvestNI that is.

Invest are worse than useless. The whole setup destroys local innovation. Particularly in those sectors it is trying to promote though direct foreign investment.

They should change their name to InvestBelfast <_<

  5. Yes the EA phoned this morning, had viewers round on saturday they liked it and have made an offer today. The house has been on the market since november 2010, I posted on here for advice which I got and which I am thankful for. And yes I do also use other forums, not just for housing related stuff, didnt know I wasnt supposed to do so?? I also posted a thread on MSE and also got advice there, since we had the offer today I have removed the ads from gumtree.

108k after you said you would reduce to 98k. Better hope they dont see this thread

  6. If its over in the Waterside mate dont worry i'll not touch it :P Im only looking in the Cityside

    All the best with it!

EDIT: My mate had SA on a repo but a few days later someone else came in with a higher offer

    BBC Property ladder stories.

Do these people have brains? They are stuggling to save any money due to the high cost of living.

Yet it seems they are prepared to take on a huge debt (mortgage). Have they stopped and thought for one minute that the cost of living will continue to rise, What if IR rise? What if one of them looses their job? What about an emergeny fund to cover any repairs to their house? What about having a years mortgage repayment saved incase the sh*t hits the fan?

If they are struggling to have any spare cash now then why the rush to take on a mortgage? And they think, on the back of this, the bank should lend them whatever they ask for!

  8. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-14708841

Almost 1,200 comments on that article so far , some switched on others totally and utterly clueless .........

    Here is someone utterly clueless

my girlfriend and I have lived together 3 years, we are both in our 20's and we earn a combined income of just under £30k a year. We have no savings and just about get by on what we make now. We would love to buy our own property instead of pay for and maintain someone elses house but have no chance of saving for a mortgage unless someone fronts us the cash which is highly unlikely

Yet this idiot wants a bank to give him a mortgage

  9. And our EA of the week 23 years old Laura Ann with a lifetime of experience gives us this sage advice for house hunters

and then allow some EA to persuade you that you can afford much more than that honest!

    http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/woman/house-home/special-agent-new-builds-are-no-fuss-for-lauraann-lindsay-16035369.html

Seriously what is it with the Bel Tel? I mean who the f**k wants to read up on a profile about an EA? Are peoples lives really that dull?

  10. Both in nice areas. However the houses weren't cleaned and had stuff laying all over the place. Do vendors not care what state their house is in? Does it take that much effort to tidy up a pile of clothes? Make a bed? Clean the dishes? Give the bathroom a once over? Open a widnow and let some air in?

I would have thought that with nothing selling vendors would at least tidy the place!

  11. Because NI riots are religious/ethnicity/occuption of a foreign nation based, not opportunistic?

A riots a riot. Doesn't matter what causes it. If it puts peoples lives and businesses at risk then it needs dealt with.

  12. In NI water cannons and plastic/rubber bullets are used straight away. In these riots there is no looting. Violence towards the police yes but no looting

In Londion there is violence against the police and widespread looting so why aren't plastic/rubber bulltes used and the water cannons deployed?

  13. just heard adair on the beeb

    "the housing market is recovering"

    rock on!

You would think he would read the BBC website before spouting crap..........

Compared to the second quarter of last year, detached houses in Northern Ireland have fallen by 23%, terraced/townhouses by 18%, detached bungalows by 16% and semi-detached bungalows by 11.8%.

Apartments have fallen by 11.8% and semi-detached houses saw the lowest rate of annual decline, down by 8.2%

  14. Thats the point to which i always return in the Derry Housing Market.

I have now come to realise that the black market is much more profitable and rewarding in Derry than Employment ever could be.

Just drive past the new house in Skeoge and you will see the nice new houses ready made for the good daytime tv watching masses.

I suspect that DLA claims are pumping serious money into the lcoal economy.

The Tories new reclassifcation of these payments can't come quick enough.

The local political parties will be in hysterics when it comes.

Those houses on the Skeoge Rd. Are they social or private?

As for the black market.....it must be booming. Why else do i see new Golfs everywhere!

  15. A bit off topic pajd but did you see the write up in the Irish New about the SF junior ministers criticism of the amount of direct foreign investment going to Belfast and how little makes it to the North West. Interestingly it cost 16K in incentives for every job Invest direct foreign investment strategy creates. Thank God says Allen & Overy.

No i didn't read it. Its always been like that and i doubt it will ever change. Yet i despair at the asking prices around here. Where are people getting the money?

  16. ThornLea Gardens lisaghmore house RV £95,000. Listed at £132,500.

Wonder what these all actually sold at?

Would the agents tell you up front if you asked?

    Probably no chance.

I remember asking one estate agent about a house i saw. It was lsited as 'Sale Agreed'. I asked her what price it had gone to this stage at and she told me she couldn't tell me this info as its confidential
