  1. but the majority of these sort of posts are probably from people seeking some validation and reassurance that they've made the right call in buying. People like to feel that they've done the right thing (we all like to feel clever), and convincing everybody else to do the same things you've done brings that warm feeling that you've a clever lad who's made a good call. So while they appear to be trying to convince you they've done the right thing, the reality is that they're probably mostly trying to convince themselves.

Exactly the same for the pro renting crowd,....its just like climate change or god stuff

.... as the years go by , I was utterly convinced back in 2007 I knew it all , and I was expecting an economic extinction event soon after the elections , I now realise I didnt really have a 'kin clue what was going on ,or any real understanding of the dynamics underpinning the manipulation of the economy or just how far it could/can be pushed and more so as even the Euro still continues to exist !

Feel the same for anthropomorphic climate variation and god/Buddha/Allah/satan

Just stuff it in the end , do what you feel is right for you ,and just live with whatever the outcome is ....

Suncream and Gideons in the bottom drawer in the bedroom , 200ft above sea level on a mild hill facing south looking at plans for a diy Anderson shelter on the internet.

  2.

i wonder why all the houses opposite had the bay window removed

The wooden lintle above the bay supporting the brickwork under the window above was probably failing ,,,several houses in a street I used to live in had a similar problem of a similar age , from limited subsidence as they had a stepped brick foundation sat on clay ,perhaps in this case it was more acute ....., my bay roof was shot anyway so I replaced the wooden beam with a steel joist and kept the bay ......who ever did those houses are a butcher , maybe they will render them ? Dunno ?

  3. Nick Boles, the planning minister, said the law would be changed to allow gas companies to put in fracking applications without sending out letters to tell people about possible drilling beneath their properties. Instead, companies will be required to publish a notice in a local newspaper and put up site displays in local parishes, as well as conducting a wider consultation

    http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2013/dec/18/fracking-allowed-homes-without-owners-knowledge-gas-drilling

the government said it would be too burdensome for gas companies to tell everybody within a wide radius of drilling that it might take place under their homes.

Know your place ...plebs....you are not worthy...!

  4. Its not the only white elephant.. Savanah River MOX reprocessing plant, construction started in 2007 at a projected cost of $ 4.9 bn and was due to open last year , for an operational life of 40 years , its now 3 years behind schedule hitting a now projected $ 8bn at 60% completion. Due to continuing cost overruns and the reprocessing market bombing post fuku, it may close before its been fully completed in 2016 ( est). With substantial penalty clause payments for cancellation to the builders.

Too cheap to meter eh ?

  5. I guess you don't own a house in a licenced area then , because the insurance issues and ancillary rights over the ground you supposedly own should be a real slap in the face .Another plus point for the renters who can just move without the threat of licienced random hpc.

Colorado has other issues which predate mass fracking , this from 1968

0471 Hollister, John C; Weimer, Robert, J. (editors).

1968. Geophysical and geological studies of the relationships between the Denver earthquake and the Rocky Mountain Arsenal well: Colorado School Mines Quart., v. 63, no. 1, Pt. A (papers) 251 p.; Pt. B (maps).

The geophysical portion of this study evaluates both the place of origin and the time of occurrence of the earthquakes in the Denver area. The history of earthquake activity in Colorado and its possible relationship to the recent Denver quakes is reviewed, and the relation between the Denver quakes and the reservoir into which fluids were injected via the Rocky Mountain Arsenal well is examined in detail. Geologic studies presented describe the regional structure and stratigraphy, surface geology, and regional and local characteristics of the fractured Precambrian rocks into which fluid was injected at the Arsenal well. [Pertinent papers are cited individually.) -Geophys. Abs. 266-092.

Deep well injection of contaminates ( radiological and chemical) usually takes place away from shales to minimise plume spread, a lot of these injection wells are now being used to get rid of massive volumes of produced water from fracking (also euphemistically called brine, but you would not want to go swimming in it) as its too contaminated to be entered into the sewage system .You don't have to be in a fracking area to be at risk from its consequences in the States , just further down the watershed . To be fair though its going to hard to separate one contaminate disposal process from the other , particulary with regard to historical industrial disposal from the weapons industry.

  6. Another irony is that the money that Cameron has suggested to be earmarked to the councils won't even cover the current policing protection of the sites .....

Boscombe has already run up a £4m bill and the Manchester site half a million , the first batch are going to be an estimated 2880 wells spread all over , with locals having demonstrations at most .(local hpc and insurance issues, not to mention a chemical plant in all but name, outgassing ,noise ,surface spills and HGV traffic on their doorstep.)

  7. every time a bus or heavy truck passes my house it is shaking. who do I get the compensation from ???

As I pointed out earlier , its not what happens on the surface that matters. You may not notice that its even happened ,

... although if there is eventually a 5 plus such as what as been happening in Texas...... and has caused structural damage , inevitably in brick buildings , best of luck on your insurance claim , better say it was the trucks , be around 50 a day ,every day per pad rather than the insurance exempt fracking . ....Not sure if the insurance company will exempt them as well though? Dunno?

Fair chance of finding out yourself , government estimates 2880 wells in the first round . Might actually trigger a HPC....hurrah!
