Its time to buy Posted April 11, 2006 Posted April 11, 2006 I went to pay into my savings the other day, and the cashier said to me "did you realise you can upgrade your account, and your cheques clear faster?" I sighed and said yes, but not interested as only use them as a short holding of funds (not my main bank) Then she said, "from July, you wont be able to use the counter" I said, does that mean you are going to lose your job? Silence, and I said good day... Anyone else know of this news??? I assume its the halifax current account that I have - but if its true, then I will move my savings else where. I cant find any announcement on the halifax website. Quote
Time to raise the rents. Posted April 11, 2006 Posted April 11, 2006 It's all down to squeezing the customer for the profitable actibities & pushing them away for the boring stuff (like handing over small deposits for example). Quote
smartie Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 You probably have one of the original Halifax accounts like "Cardcash". If you get statements by post you will have had a small insert in about six pages of tiny print telling you about the changes. Each branch/agency is targeted on sales volumes per transactions. So for years they have tried to make people use the ATM machines rather than the counter. Except it doesn't work. I see people coming in explicitly for £5 so they don't have to use the ATM. Cardcash doesn't earn interest, and its usually only a Visa Electron card. The Halifax earn money whilst taking longer to clear your cheques, they are making money out of you. The new rules are coming in soon, probably July. Self-service machines (like the ones Nationwide Building Society have) are your only option from then. smartie Quote
