  1. "it doesn't mean that Saidia itself is a failure which is what the gloaters seem to be saying. It isn't built - nothing is open much. "

It is not a failure (yet) and it might be a ncie resort.

BUt was a bad investment in 2006. There is no capital gain and it won't be for some time. No capital gain+ no rental income = loss of interest rates for at least 4 years i.e. about 25%.

Who likes losing 25% of an investment?

  2. Bucharest?

How? I've been looking for tickets to Bucharest for a while now and can't get anything for less than £400 (Whiz Air) for a couple, or £500 (BA)

EasyJet fly there, but they seem to have no services after June.

    Any help appreciated.

Well, Easyjet had a £15/person discount in March and the May tickets were cheap then.

I fly again in September with either Ryanair (to BUdapest) or Wizzair (Cluj or BUcharest). They are about £100/person.

Czech Airlines fly to BUcharest for about £170/person return.

"Families are facing holiday misery this summer after big airlines sharply increased fuel surcharges on their flights, bringing the era of cheap air travel to an end.

Virgin Atlantic is imposing new charges today and, from Tuesday, British Airways long-haul passengers will have to pay £218 on top of the ticket price simply to cover the cost of fuel.

Other airlines, struggling to cope with fuel bills but wary of raising ticket prices for fear of losing customers, are introducing new fees for services, such as baggage handling, more leg room and even a window seat. "

    I bought 4 tickets to:

    - Bucharest roundrtrip £150 for four

    - Geneva roundrip £250 for four

    - Valencia roundrip £80 for four

I also go to New York - £250 roundtrip for one.

It might be the last year when I fly more than once though...

  4. Their youngest child will leave home to go to university next year and they no longer need such a big place especially, as 'dad' retired last year and 'mum' will do so in couple more years, and they would like to trade down to a flat. They have two problems. Firstly, who the hell as a spare 1.4m euros hanging around to buy their place with, now that the banks have stopped lending? Secondly, how are they going to keep a signifcant mortgage going (due to mewing to put their eldest son through pilot school) with only one income, despite 'dad's' generous pension?

Hi Mark, do you think that apartments in areas like Mojacar - Vera could be had for £10K in the near future? That is some money I could afford to lose without regreting.

  5. The cranes around Torrevieja etc are static now, it's all going badly wrong. I reckon that a man with a wodge of notes could pick up a decent enough 2 bed apartment for £30k. I

£30K would not be a bad value. But who sells at those prices? The asking prices are still quite high,.much more than £30k...

  6. sun. It's also difficult to believe that the Mediterranean Sea is ugly; even Homer only called it wine-dark. But if you think it's ugly then I advise you not to go to any English city centre, the shock could be too great.

Mediteranean Sea around Vera-MOjacar was extremely beautiful before Spanish developers decided to destroy the area and built the junk that it is such an eye-sore in that area.

If you want nicer areas go between Aguillas and San Juan, where human beings have not managed yet to wreck the nature.

If you bought in Vera-MOjacar area, then you are really going to lose lots of equity in the near future. But as you said, you do not care so you will be fine.

  7. they (politicians) will do everything to engineer an economic 'soft landing'. Therefore I see the latter scenario as more likely.

I have an apartment in Almeria and am entirely philosophical about the situation. It doesn't really matter to me what its value is - I'm interested of course, hence this forum - but ultimately it makes no difference. If prices fall I say good news for my children; if they rise I say this as well because they get the property when I die.

In the meantime: more San Miguel and tapas. Buena suerte!

Politicians cannot do anything about prices in Spain, they are now falling like a rock. Cobined with the very low Pound/Euro rate, it is financial suicide to purchase as a Brit in Spain in 2008.

There are tens of thousands of rental properties.

I am not sure where you live in Almeria , but if it is between Vera and Mojacar then you really are unlucky as that area is one of the ugliest one can imagine and prices will go down by 80% in the next few years.

  8. Some people who have wised up to the idea that BTL is not the best investment around might be interested in alternative investments. The question, is in fact, asked often here.. Although lately the deflationists/gold bashers have done a good job of marginalising and bullying anyone who mentions gold off the forum. So much for rational debate, eh? Are you one who seeks to stifle debate, narrow opinion and drive people away who do not share your views simply because you do not agree with them? ..Or do you have an intelligent response to what i posted?

When you are going to post intelligently, I am going to give you an intelligent response.

Are you a child who likes to do what his/her parents tell him/her not to do?

You know that this forum is not for gold hyping, then why do you and others continue doing so?

Don't worry about the people who have wised up to the idea that BTL is not the best investment around might be interested in alternative investments, they are smarter than you think they are. They are not going to buy gold just because some guy drminky told them on an open forum.

  9. Noones forcing you to buy any. In fact, we're happy you aren't. More ounces cheaper for the rest of us..

after all, isn't the goal of investing to buy when value still has upside potential, and sell when there's only downside potential left?

I did not observe that this site has changed the name into goldpriceboom.co.uk

Why do you think that people are interested in your investments?

  10. They have not a clue what is just round the corner

These people will soon if not already, wished they had listened to me/us.

What would you expect them to do? There is life outside price crashes and waiting for the disaster to strike.

If one does not need a mortgage soon or a personal loan and has a decently secure job, why worry?

  11. How do you feel about it ?Are you elated? Is this what you wanted?

Or are you scared for the future?

Scared about what? I have a little mortgage, try to pay as little as possible for food, have 2 little cars which take little petrol, go from time in time in holidays when I find cheap deals.

Yeah, I am scared about my children's future but I am trying to do my best to help them.

I have some money waiting to purchase a house in California or around Reno.

I observe the armageddon but I know that most of the people suffering are the stupid ones so they deserve it.

  12. Have you ever considered that people holding £'s and $'s are the suckers ?

Of course one should not hold £'s and $'s.

But one should buy things that are not suggested on public forums and media. Everything suggested by media and on public forums are already overvalued.

Do your homework and you might be lucky and happy in a couple of years.

  13. Too much frightened money piling into commodities for my liking. There's going to be an almighty correction sometime soon......

Suckers are punished in any possible way. Idiots who invest at the top of the market in commodities are no different than the idiots who invested in houses at the top of the market.

  14. he would hardly be expecting the value of his gold to rise based on the global reaction to his comments here in order to cash it in. gold and the rise of it, is out of the control of even powerful governments and banks.

c'mon CTT, get with the program. lets see some other return on your lifes experiences other than cynicism.

if that was the messiahs plan it would be soooooo gay....

I really liked your postings about sheeple menttality in what concerns houses. NOw Irealize you only wrote them to scare people and make them buy stupid gold.

Do you think your readers are idiots?

    Wake up!
