    Honestly...

Between those marching now weekly in support of genocidal iron age mentality slavery practicising savages in the middle east, people concerned for those poor souls confused over which toilet to use and those spending their time staring at clouds.... I sometimes wonder if we just really need an asteroid strike to put us all out of our misery - and allow everything to start over again.

Plenty of ranting about house prices. Shouting. Lots of tears. Slamming of doors. There was swearing at the dinner table. The general view was that house prices are about to take a serious dive, but that was negated by an almost as strong view that they won't. More tears.

But I was on my own. So next year I might join the family on Christmas day, and get their views.

Have you seen the film Split? 😂😬😉

  3. 1. More of an aspiration... Die peacefully in my sleep and escape the anhedonia (and societal lunacy).

    2. If that doesn't happen, completing some jobs on my "to do list", although recent progress has been sluggish in light of No 1 😂

Mods I appreciate this is off topic, so feel free to delete or move to the Lunatic Asylum forum if such a thing exists 😂

I read this the other day. As usual, terrible advice from the experts. I think one says the mortgage is fixed until 2025 so it's not a problem. It bloody soon will be!

The other thing is PCP is fixed term.  I'm sure it's not. Just ask the finance company for an early settlement, pay it off with the "nest egg" and keep the car and be 600 a month better off. If they are not prepared to buy the car outright with the money then perhaps they didn't want the car that badly.

We're trying to save to pay off a lump sum from our mortgage when the fix ends in jan 2026... anything to minimise the risk of bi rate jump.

Had a couple from London move in near us. They earn around £70k combined. One is a teacher (head of year) and the other is carpenter. Maxed out their mortgage, £265k mortgage with expected 30 years run time. They are already 40 so must have put expected retirement at 70! Deposit put down was £140k. All so they could have a 5 bed (and a loft room) despite not having children. Absolute madness.

The only thing going for them was the condition of the house. Immaculate.

My situation is similar in some ways (same size mortgage, same income, but 2 kids). My 23 yr mortgage is set to end when I hit 67, but we plan to overpay and end it sooner.

Sounds like wiggle chain reaction cycles is going in to administration.

    The end of the road...

Unable to weather the economic cycle...

You'd think selling bikes/accessories would be profitable... But somehow they ended up making £100m loss last year... I'd love to know the details.

There is all this talk about Birmingham Council going Bankrupt due to being sued but what other wasting of money has bought about this situation? I don't think it is just because of this issue.

I don't believe a lot of what I hear and read however there is normally some truth in rumours.  I saw a vid yesterday on youtube re Birmingham reading the comments a statement was made that they had spent £17 Million in one year with one cab company for them to Taxi Children from difficult backgrounds to schools.

It went on to say that some of these trips were only a few miles each way yet it worked out at £40,000 per child per year. Not saying this is all fact but situations like this need looking into and need to be addressed. How many other councils are wasting money in this way?

I too work for a council. There may be an obligation to provide transport for these kids, and taxi might be the only option. It is also possible of course that they are wasting money, but with politicians and statutory duties, things are often very complex.

People like to spend in the summer....splash the cash on summer holidays and going out.

People are now suddenly realising they are massively in debt with rising mortgage rates and winter energy bills starting to kick in. Not to mention having to save some money for xmas.

Expect pubs and restuarants to be in big trouble September - November. I dread to think what January/February will be like....

September is the month where it starts aggressively going downhill.....

I came back from hols in early July, have not been to pub since (trying to reduce credit card debt). Been to restaurant once since then, and that was for my annual night out with wife (kids with the in-laws). Have had about 4 takeaways total in 2 years ... none since hols.

I'm not sure whether others will choose to be frugal, or be forced to by banks not increasing card limits, agreeing new loans.

    Yes.

London like most mega expensive places is great for the rich.

For everyone else a different story.

The wealthy in London along with the political establishment are going to get a rude awakening to the reality that is  coming.

It's going to put them into serious panic mode when the SHTF.

The middle class want their coffee and sandwiches made in the coffee shops, but also want high property prices. They seem to forget that the staff doing the former are priced out by the latter.

As I have said to such folk in my own family, if average house prices don't match average salaries, you have a big problem.

Recently a lot of 'hottest days ever' records being broken, but the data is being manipulated.

tldr; Air temperature is traditionally taken two metres off the ground. They have recently started taking temperature's from ground level, where it's always much hotter as you're measuring the ground rather than air temperature. In particular if you take your reading from the middle of an urban airport where the tarmac gets really hot.

Reminds me  of the deliberate conflation of deaths with COVID and deaths from COVID. Operation fear continues.

As I explain to my kids .... stretch a tape measure out for 60km, the last 2mm represent our weather records.

I was having a chat with my accountant today and he said to me that HMRC are gunning for the landlords, he has had about 20 calls in the past month from new clients who are in the sights of HMRC, he said the Government has run out of money so now have to go for them and the fines being leveled are very harsh.

Lovely if true ... would like to see specific examples of this happening.
