  1. This test only has one question, but it's a very important one. By giving an honest answer, you will discover where you stand morally.

The test features an unlikely, completely fictional situation in which you will have to make a decision.

Remember that your answer needs to be honest, yet spontaneous.

Please read down slowly and give due consideration to each line.

    THE SITUATION:

You are in England; York, to be specific.

There is chaos all around you caused by a hurricane with severe flooding.

This is a flood of biblical proportions.

You are a photo-journalist working for a major newspaper, and you're caught in the middle of this epic disaster. The situation is nearly hopeless.

You're trying to shoot career-making photos.

There are houses and people swirling around you, some disappearing into the water.

Nature is unleashing all of its destructive fury.

    THE TEST:

Suddenly, you see a man in the water.

He is fighting for his life, trying not to be taken down with the debris.

You move closer... Somehow, the man looks familiar...

You suddenly realise who it is... It's Gordon Brown!

You notice that the raging waters are about to take him under forever. You have two options:

You can save the life of Gordon Brown or you can shoot a dramatic Pulitzer Prize winning photo, documenting the death of one of the country's most powerful men!

    THE QUESTION:

Here's the question, and please give an honest answer...

Would you select high contrast colour film, or would you go with the classic simplicity of black and white?

  2. Send me a PM.

I relocated to IoM a couple of months ago. And getting good tax advice was a nightmare.

I was initially told I would have to pay an exit tax of over £1million. I got that reduced to zero but that will not work in every case.

I also have all the contacts for government grants, work permits etc. We were offered 40% of all relocation costs, and running costs for 2 years.

You are in luck the IoM is actively seeking internet businesses to relocate to the Island.

will do - just as soon as my status is upgraded so I can use the PM system! (have requested it)

  3. Don't you think you owe it to the society you live in to put something back... I know the current government have pisssed it all up the wall for the past few years, but we've all got to chip in somehow, however distasteful.

If everyone does this = no tax revenue = spiralling debt and no public services = country fcuked beyond belief... :(

Well yes, to a certain etent - except I think we're way past that point now. Look at it from my point of view - at the moment my household pays over 5x the average amount of income tax... then because the local school is a chav-riddled drug den, we scrimp & save to send 2 kids to private school - another cost, and yet I'm still paying taxes for education that I don't use. Ditto with healthcare. Through c.diff and MRSA the NHS now kills more people than it saves, so we have private healthcare.... do I get any kind of rebate for the NHS that I'm contributing too but not a drain upon?? Nope

There are thousands of families in the UK who are paying for services twice (at least) and getting stiffed for it. What's more you get the large multinationals who have the expertise to avoid tax (Cayman Islands etc) and don't pay a penny toward the nation that they extort... so if Badger isn't getting his cash from them, and is getting less because of the unemployment, whilst having to cough up more... then I ask you:

Will I eventually be expected to pay for the entire nation?

PS - as for "putting something back" all the extras I pay for have VAT, the private healthcare & schooling employs teachers, nurses & doctors who all pay tax, and spend their money in the shops too. I can assure you I'm putting back quite a lot more already

  4. Hi All - am hoping some of you may have some good advice/insights for this.

I'm considering 'relocating' my business to the Isle of Man. The reasons for this are solely tax avoidance (note, not evasion!).

As my business is a ltd co. and mainly internet based (i.e. I don't rely on local custom) then I'm trying to think of reasons for & against moving the registered office out of the UK. At the moment the reg office is specified as our accountants offices, and I work from a satellite location.

It seems that according to IoM regulations, the reg office needs to be in the IoM (which is pretty reasonable really!) so I suppose I could appoint a new accountant there, and swap the reg office to that address, and continue working with my existing clients from my current office.

It's a bit of a hassle, and the annual filing fees seems to be a few hundred pounds higher than in the UK, but the benefits seem to be:

    • No capital gains tax

    • Personal allowance of 7.5k

    • Corporation tax at 10%

    • UK tied VAT at 15%

We normally pay ourselves by taking a small salary (just enough to break the threshold and pay some NI) and then take the rest as a dividend, resulting in a tax bill of around 25% instead of 40% (this procedure is pretty common for SME's, and far more efficient than PAYE) However from what little reading I've done to date, it seems we could probably get this down to as low as 12-15% saving several K each year.

Now I fully expect that there are some pitfalls (in addition to the extra fees and accounting charges) - and I'll make a decision as to whether it's worth doing with those in mind, but at the moment, leaving the business paying UK tax does seem a bit daft. - Is there something i'm missing?? Why doesn't everyone do this?

Also, I'm sure there will be some of you who are unhappy about people in my position 'playing the system' as it were. I can see your point to an extent, but let me mention out a few things. Firstly, if the UK took a reasonable percentage of your income, and allowed you to keep enough so you could enjoy life, then I'd leave it as it is. But we get hammered here, and I've had enough. Secondly, my wife has a very good job also, and her tax bill alone is almost 3x the national average... so as Sam in The West Wing was fond of saying "If my house burns down, do I expect the fire service to get there three times quicker?" (ok he said 17 times, but you get my point). Finally please remember that We'd still be paying Council Tax, which I'm pretty sure pays for the Police, bin emptying, local services etc - so the only people I'm 'taking' money from are the bone-idle dossers and 'level 3 diversity outreach monitors" in gvmnt non-jobs...!

So - can anyone offer advice on moving the business details out of the UK?

  5. Here are my assumptions:

but at least they'd repatriate the Gurkhas too which puts them in-line with Gordon Brown...

There's so much in your post that's just plain incorrect -however this bit is the most offensive, so i'll comment on that.

There have been 2 attempted slurs in national 'news'papers in the last week, where someone has produced a leaflet claiming to be from the BNP, saying they would not allow Gurkhas in.

These have both been proved to be outright lies, and Nick Griffin has gone on record to say that the BNP would welcome people who were prepared to fight in our armed services. (Also they've made 2 complaints to the PCC about the reports).

Specifically he said that although there was no more room in the country, he'd happily allow the 100,000 Gurkhas (inc families) in especially if he could get rid of the 100,000 al-qaeda supporters that are already here

Seems like a good swap to me

  6. Southmartin - it isn't immigrants that fck up your life - it's you. You're a bitter no-mark racist loser. :lol::lol::lol::lol:

    PML - thanks for that!

I see that rather than try to debate any point I made, you just turn to insults... gosh, you've obviously won this argument then, well done you!

PS - if you want to choose anything I've written and point out what makes it racist, then i'll be here all night to answer....

  7. That doesn't make any sense. People should work in the best jobs they can get (isn't this normal?). No-one is owed an 'interesting' job - and the only person who can ensure you get one is you. I don't want to pay taxes to support people who don't want to work because they are better off on benefits any more than those who don't want to work because it's boring.

i think you miss my point, perhaps i didn't explain well enough

I'm not saying they're owed an 'interesting' job - just one that gives them a bit of self-worth, and so if we agree that due to having their benefits cut, then they're unlikely to be doing the job just for the love of it, then I think it's only reasonable to make it financially attractive.

I'm not talking six-figures for flipping burgers or anything, but enough so they can work hard, then have a few beers at the weekend and maybe save for a holiday.

Yes, it would normally cost more to then buy the products from companies that have employed them, but this woudl be nationwide increase, and be more than offset by the extra amount staying in your pockets as income tax will be reduced as we're not paying for their support anymore

    ===

But anyway - WTF are you doing here? - you're from Vancouver, probably the most beautiful city and landscape in the world, and you come here?? are you clinically insane?

  8. Er - the carrot is the wages you earn from having a job doing productive things in the economy.

    well durrrrr

but the carrot needs to be one that you want to eat - not just forced to because you'll die in the gutter if you don't.

Or in other words, I'm happy to be tough on the JK watchers, but once they're becoming useful members of society, you've got to retain their interest in doing the job - unmotivated workers can sometimes be worse than no workers at all

  9. Immigration is a good thing - it enriches our lives.

remind me again how it's good to import labour, that then sends a lot of their earnings out of the country, whilst at the same time we pay fat layabouts to sit on their @rses all day watching Jeremy Kyle?

Surely if we didn't use immigrants for "poorly paid jobs that 'brits' won't do" (which is the usual left reasoning) then those employers would have to increase the wages of the poorly paid, and actually make it worthwhile to go out and get a job.

In very simplistic terms, we've got 3m immigrants (officially) and soon have 3m unemployed... can anyone see a plan here?

And don't even get me started about how we seem to have to bend over backwards to accommodate their needs, in order so that we don't appear racist... who's country is it again? - doesn't feel like mine anymore

  10. Didn't he just say Islam is a wicked viscous faith for that conviction?

No, not this time - he did say that, and was taken to court, but his defence was that it IS a wicke dfaith, and after his explanation the jury agreed and he walked free.

islam, aka "the religion of peace" (snigger) is a faith that enslaves women and makes them the property of a man at each stage of their life. A faith that stones gays or adulterers to death, is instructed by their religious leaders to behead infidels (and in the koran infidels are described as non-believers, aka 97% of our population then!) and also insists that the animals they kill for food are fully alive and conscious when they're hoisted upside down and then have their throats slit (google halal if you don't believe what halal entails)

It is not just wicked and evil, it's barbaric.... and just in case you think all religions have their bad bits, I'd like someone to tell me how many people christians have crucified recently?... or how many hindus or buddists have detonated themselves in tube stations??

I'd stand up and say islam is a wicked backwards religion worshipped by nutjobs who're stupid and braindead enough to believe that they'll get 72 virgins if they kill innocent men women & children - if someone wants to jail me for that, then we really are living in the police state

BNP for me, if only so that we'll have a fighting chance when the inevitable civil war arrives!

    PS - I hate fence-sitters - can you tell>

  11. Has Guido got anything on his blog yet? Frustrating work have just recently blocked order-order.com

Bet hes having a field day

Funniest comment I've ever read on Guido's blog in response to her going...:

"And let us hope that little b!tch of sh!t is not re-elected by the good knife-carrying folk of Salford."

-do you think there's a hidden coded message in there somewhere?

  12. Darling took on Browns complete mess.Darling is a decent fairly straight man.Brown should defend Darling 100% as he tries to deal with Browns recession.

I don't really care if he's a nice guy or not - it makes no difference

The simple fact is that he's not up to the job...not by a long way. I'd rather have a complete git in charge of our finances, someone whom everyone hates, but who can grab the issue by the throat and shake it until we get results. The decision on who holds the public purse strings should not be a popularity contest.

Darling looks like a frightened puppy with a gammy leg... please someone, put him out of his misery before his hair goes even whiter!
