Guest crashdesk Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 I know there is this http://twitter.com/housepricecrash, but most of the info isn't relevant to me and possibly a lot of you. What about setting up a housepricecrashni account where we can tweet relevant NI information and even use Twitpic to post images? We could send the account login details to most of the main users here. Let me know what you think? I know I'd use the service. Best of all, it's free. Maybe we could set it up to tweet when a new post is made? Best, C Quote

Guest crashdesk Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 (edited) I use Twitter all the time. I actually have got recent business through Twitter, so I find the time spent on it brings me good ROI. With regards to the HPC, it would actually save me time, checking whether there are any new posts as they would be tweeted to me automatically. (It wouldn't be a replacement). I'm a web designer by trade so I do use things like that to save time and comunicate more efficiently. Say for instance I had a question about a property, I could take a photo on my phone, tweet it, ask a question all in roughly 20 seconds. Obviously if no-one else here uses these applications or services there's no point in talking about it any more. Just a suggestion ;-) Edited March 18, 2010 by crashdesk Quote

I don't need any more instant data comms than I have already, better comms to me is more bandwidth (ie body language, pointing and showing in full stereoscopic 3D surround smelly vision). Although I have to admit that I found developing a web database system with our developer based in Auz was ok. I guess in this virtual world stuff is nicely ordered, 1 means 1, but the quantisation becomes limiting when you have to interface to reality. BTW I'm not knocking web development, I plan to be involved in it in the future. The popularity of twitter defeats me, I just think it satisfies this craving for short headlines and skimming that is happening, purified gossip, which is a human nature, but only useful when, well.. useful. Its like taking a pill to experience life, or BOGOF offers, taking advantage of our psychology. Quote

Its like taking a pill to experience life, or BOGOF offers, taking advantage of our psychology. The popularity of Twitter defeats me too to some extent (That is the amount of people who don't know how to use it properly, although they obviously get some value from it), but my job has shown me how useful it is. Again, it comes down to wanting/needing to use it, seeing the benefits. In the early days I just played about with it, but now it is truly useful for spreading news to potential clients eg. If I release a blog post, I tweet it, I get people viewing it, I get subscribers etc One recent client failed to see a lot of failings within their company which were being posted on Twitter. Believe me, people just tweet if they are now satisfied with a service or product (They may also do the proper thing and actually ring the company in question). What I have taught the client to do is manage their brand on Twitter and other Social Media sites and things have changed dramtically. Instead of seeing all the bad comments, people see a conversation between the company and it's few disgruntled cursomers. They also see the issue being resolved and the customer stickung with the company. Something you would not know of if the conversation was just between that person and the company. It doesn't work for everyone, but it "can" help businesses. Edited March 19, 2010 by crashdesk Quote

Guest crashdesk Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 (edited) Now that is interesting! I don't want to waffle because it is slightly off topic, but companies now carry out Social Media searches for their brand to see if they are being mentioned online. Some people see Social Media as a waste of time and I totally agree as far as some users are concerned, but you have to admit, with the growth of Twitter, Facebook, Google Buzz etc, if you are a business and not monitoring/using these avenues of communication you will be missing out on opportunities to manage your brand and increase revenue. 99% of people I work with think that Google is the be all and end all, but believe me, if people want to know about a product they are going to buy or invest in, they will ask people on networks like Twitter, Facebook, Forums before they take the plunge. The initial search for a company may be on Google, but from there, there are many bases to cover to ensure you get a sale! Edited March 20, 2010 by crashdesk Quote
