I have been on this site a long time and I basically monitor it because I am interested in economics (and habit I suppose) but are property prices in the UK still expensive?? Really? When you strip out London?
They don't look expensive to me and you can look for yourself on rightmove. Two bedroom flats in Bristol at 120K. You can sign up for a 25 year mortgage for 625 pounds a month. 300 each on rent. Its the same all over outside of London.Consider also that inflation may go up but interest rates certainly won't. Its only London and probably was only ever London but I never considered outside London back in the day.

UBS have also stated in the last 24 hrs that "Rate cuts won’t save the stock market this time"

www.cnbc.com/2019/10/01/rate-cuts-wont-save-the-stock-market-this-time-ubs-predicts.html

Do they just need to make the headlines ?

Techie - it's New York, London, Paris, Munich - I can't see you getting to Simon Cowell's boot camp/house this year if you don't get the lyrics in the correct sequence (LOL)

So who performed this one ? Rome Munich Rome, All the women and the money I've blown, Rome Munich Rome

@stillthinking

"You can sign up for a 25 year mortgage ..."

Really? When I bought, the longest fixed term I could find was 10 years and that was just one of a hundred or so options at the time.

40 year mortgages are now quite common - lenders however do not like lending beyond state retirement age unless you can prove affordability in retirement.

Just making the point that two bed flats aren't that expensive, I am sure getting a mortgage is difficult, but the price outside London isn't that bad. Using this
https://www.barclays.co.uk/mortgages/mortgage-calculator/cost-calculator/#/costresults
I find that 120,000 with a 10K deposit for 25 years is a bit under 550/month.
Its 250/month for tube travel in London.........
