Judith Wilson fined £25,000 over lack of hot water for disabled tenant

Guardian: Landlord fined £25,000 over lack of hot water for disabled tenant

"The Wilsons said they would appeal against the decision – and threatened to crash the local property market by putting their remaining properties on the market at the same time."

Is my ironic prophecy going to come true?

I'd be surprised if they did crash the market on purpose but they'd have fewer choices if they end up on the slumlord register. Their planned liquidation isn't moving forward all that quickly is it?

Wilson said that the houses would be 50-100K down, but nobody knows what prices in Ashford were beforehand. Drumming up interest. Probably he is stuck trying to sell 300 properties in the exact same spot pretty much, plus all the people who can successfully live in the area dried out by rent. Its the only comment he has made that made me think he does want to sell, he has said the same thing before as displacement whenever he has been accused in the newspapers.

I can imagine the Council saying "Go on then"

Winners could include:

The Council, who would have less problems and be able to spend less money housing people

Estate Agents, Solicitors, Mortgage Brokers etc

The taxman, who would suddenly get a large amount of Capital Gains Tax.

The only losers would be the Wilson's, and the few people who actually managed to buy in the area while the Wilson's were Hoovering up almost all the houses that came on the market.

I still think back to Financial Forum where someone was asking where they could earn interest on the money they were saving for a house deposit, without the risk that it would be lent out to a BTL Landlord who would then be competing against them when they could afford to buy.
