Something wrong on supply side...props helping people stay forced sellers...bit
Like dotcom boom...prices kept rising as sellers.stayed away creating a bubble when the bubble

Interesting reading the comments to that DM article. They seem to divide along BTL and non-BTL-landlord lines, with the latter mostly predicting a correction some time after the election, and the next government taxing BTL (maybe wishful thinking on the latter). Someone argues that falling mortgage demand does not necessarily lead to reduced house prices. I remember before the last price falls a "mexican standoff" since sellers started withdrawing properties given prices were not increasing. Is there any evidence of that now?

The obvious reason must be the forthcoming election. Many people I speak to have been taken in by the smoke and mirrors economic pronouncements of the current government / right wing tabloids and think that the economy is healthy. These are the only people prepared to buy at the current inflated prices, but they are worried that a Labour government would wreck the economy and cause a house price crash, so they are holding off until after the election.

from EA Today March 2015 sales report: "Properties ‘Sold’ nationally saw an increase of 14.3%, the largest increase in sales for March since 2011. Properties coming on to the market increased by 11.6%, doubling the figures recorded for the month in 2014." Just a suggestion that demand could be falling nationally alongside an increase in properties coming onto the market as sellers still views themselves as 'riding the wave'.

Lots of estate agents getting very excited with their pricing, then later offering quite sizable reductions.
