Great summary. Despite a so-called booming economy large swathes are taking a haircut via muted wage growth and increased living costs. A change in govt won't do a thing to rectify this trend, though an end to the tripartite corruption would be a good start.

"In the UK stricter tests have been introduced to try to prevent banks and building societies lending as recklessly as they did before. There have been repeated warnings to borrowers that at some point interest rates will have to rise. Up is the only direction in which they can go."

One of our more voluble posters has made a contrarian case that the next movement in interest rates will be downwards. I cannot help wondering if he will be proved right yet. That said, I would be looking for a ten year fix right now rather than playing crystal ball gazing games.
