Interest not rising

Keep UK interest rate low for now, IMF tells Bank of England

Only raise IR if house prices keep going up? And oh look, house prices are allegedly dropping :- http://www.theguardian.com/money/2014/jul/28/average-house-prices-stall-1m-plus-properties-england-wales So that's OK then? I swear the game is rigged more than a LIBOR call.

  • With them being wrong about austerity here, maybe they are a contrarian indicator and I am wrong about rates going down.

German rates are still falling. That will provide strength to the pound regardless because if Europe’s rates fall whilst ours stay still, that will have a similar effect to hiking rates in normal conditions. Note, if Germany has negative rates, our slightly positive rate looks very much more positive.

  • Oil popped down below $100. http://uk.investing.com/commodities/crude-oil

If it drops considerably from here and fails to recover. That is your sign that rates are going down. This could be a false move however, but frankly, with all this shale oil, prices should be nearer $80, and whilst US growth is back, so is US oil production.
