A third of tenants evicted or threatened with eviction after complaining

A third of tenants (32%) who have been evicted, or threatened with eviction, have been put in this position after making a complaint to their landlords about the condition of a property, or after asking for repairs to be carried out

  • I got threatened with being thrown out after complaining about black mold. We ended up walking. Under the housing act, enforcement can take over a year, yet land lords can throw out with 2 months notice.

  • Our landlord is fantastic. Our agents are parasites. We’ve been here 5 years and the only problem we have ever had getting repairs carried out is that we have had to ask about 4 times every time. In every case, this was down to the lazy incompetent agent not even passing on the request. I resent giving them money every month and have even discussed cutting them out with the landlord for breach of contract.

  • Strangley in my last house my agent was great and the landlords awful. There where electrical and plumbing problems we did not see on inspection. lights would blow every few weeks and wiring fused and was dangerous and the shower would not come on due to a problem with the pump. This was all in a very fancy open plan super modern barn conversion, must of cost them a fortune to do up, but they where not prepared (or could afford) to maintain it. We told them we would leave if they did not fix the issues so they gave notice instead

The banks will never allow tenant rights to be improved as this will hit their ‘profits’.

This gets us back to the ‘minsky moment’ the point at which people are so indebted they cannot afford to maintain properties and functional economically as they are so busy repaying debt. Economy collapses and the government have to do stupid things like help to borrow schemes. Solutions as ever LVT and government issue of money (not bank issued money)
