Very low first-time buyer rate but fee is £1,545

Chelsea BS offers 2-year fix for FTB's at 3.54%

Under a new product launched by Chelsea Building Society, borrowers will only need a ten per cent deposit. The new two-year fixed rate mortgage which launched today (September 13th) offers a best buy rate of 3.54 per cent

  • You have to wonder about all the fees for buying a house these days.

    £1,545 Mortgage fee
    £1,650 Stamp duty (est.)
    £1,000 survey and solicitors.

    And that’s £4k just to get a key for the front door, add removals and decorating (if required) it starts adding up.

    125% mortgages would help as they cover the cost for these expenses that can ‘just be tacked’ onto the mortgage.

    If you can’t afford the basic upfront fees you can’t afford the mortgage.
