More potential hassle for the BTL Brigade

Landlords told: vet migrant tenants

Best comment after 30mins; 'So the Govt with all the resources of the police, border protection and the public service can't (or won't) control migration but they think individual investors should be able to determine who should be here, good one Dave that Eton education must make you the best spoken Muppet in the show.' Like the way Landlords of the Slumlord variety which the article is principally about are called investors, I could think of a more appropriate term.

The easiest way to vet though would be to just refuse people rather than go through the hassle of checking and validating documents. This is bound to be fairly inflammatory.

  • This is suppose to bring UKIP voters back into the flock? What a joke. This will drive more people to UKIP, massive home goal. well done dave.

As mentioned, this will have zero affect on illegals renting through slumlords. Considering something like 30% of people are renters, this has a good chance of pissing many legal tax paying renters off.

  • So do you ask everyone for a passport, or just the foreign sounding ones?

These are all the questions which the bloke on Radio 4 this morning was asking Jeremy Hunt (quite why he was sent in to bat, I do not know) and amazingly enough, Hunt couldn’t answer a single one of them, he didn’t seem to think that practicalities mattered.

And didn’t Labour bring in some whizz bang scheme where employers were fined thousands of pounds if they employed “illegal immigrants”? What came of that? Precisely nothing is what came of that, why would it? If you’re breaking the law, then you don’t bother with paperwork, you just hope you don’t get caught.
