MPs debate housing crisis – highlights

Housing debate - the best bits

A booming private rented sector is very good news for landlords – but it has also brought problems, which are regularly raised when MPs head back to their constituencies to speak to local people. The rental sector is changing and there are now an estimated 8.5 million people renting in the UK and one million families with children, who are demanding more and more from landlords. With rising rents and high house prices many people find themselves caught between rental costs they cannot afford and a deposit they don't have a chance to save toward. That opens the door to rogue landlords and all sorts of problems - so cue a housing debate in parliament.

  • I cant quite face reading the full blurb of the politicos for fear of turning into a ‘Jerry’ like character from the Mel Gibson film Conspiracy theory.
Acknowledgment of a ‘serious problem’ (re a housing crisis) year after year and then doing absolutley nothing about it is a disgrace.
I thought Grant Schapps was a waste of space… i’ve heard nothng from thos Prisk fellow yet.
Of course, their obvious remit is to keep house prices up so people dont just walk away from their unsupportable debts to the bank, and this is what they are doing inbetween faux sympathy, un-smiley face motions to all who are getting screwed over.
The collateral damage is wealthier rent seeking scum and there servile agent dogs.
