Homeys wail about lack of affordable housing

WORKING TOWARDS A RETIREMENT FREE OF MORTGAGE WORRIES

“Downsizing is great in theory but is a bit trickier in practice. It may mean moving away from your friends and family, often to a smaller property with no space for children or grandchildren to stay over.” Why on does "downsizing" mean moving to a different area? Is it so hard finding somewhere cheaper near where your friends and family live? The choice is: smaller home in same area or same size home a bit further away, not both. And if you live near your children and grandchildren, why would you need a spare room for them? Homey non-logic at its worst.

Quite how they can square ‘oh noes, i’m approaching retirement with an outstanding mortgage’ with ‘kids these days can’t afford to buy because of their feckless ways’ is beyond me.

Then again, I guess that’s just homey non-logic.

You need a spare room as the grand kids stay over. That’s pretty normal. Jesus, sometime i wonder if people on here are overly bitter?

Sib’s, Homeys never need to square anything with anything, they can say what they like and get away with it.

They bridge the logic gap you mention with something along the lines of this “I have worked hard in the past and paid my taxes so the young people owe me a living, by e.g. paying extra taxes to pay off my mortgage for me. When my house rose in value and I remortaged to buy a new car and go on holiday, that was just my fair return on a sensible investment. Young people expect cars and holidays for free and aren’t prepared to work hard and invest wisely to get them, they want it all on interest free credit.”

    Or something like that.

  • This is a re-run of a story I believe was in the Telegraph (?) a few weeks back

My suspicion is someone needs more Equity Release cases so conjure up a story and hey presto stick this at the bottom

“The Daily Express has teamed up with Key Retirement Solutions to produce a simple, free guide to raising money through equity release. To order your copy, call 0800 531 6030 or write enclosing your name and address to Key Retirement Solutions, Freepost NWW201A, Preston, PR2 2TF”.
