  • so why wont they let people build their own, if you have recently tried for planning permission councils are a nightmare the new planning system is no better than before, these ministers talk crap but behind the scenes continue plodding along with the control of the public

    That’s an interesting viewpoint.

I’d always assumed that young people nowadays couldn’t afford housing because most of them can’t be bothered to get a proper job and if they do, they spend all their money on drugs, booze, flat screen TV’s and iPhones. Or at least that’s what the Homeys keep telling us.

what is interesting is the debt / short of money psychology, they can’t afford house, they buy a car, then they cant afford a car they buy a big tv and it goes on until finally they are bankrupt and the circle starts over.

Mark, true, that’s another lesson the Homeys never tire of repeating “When I was young I never borrowed money for fripperies, we made do”

Well apart from the historic fact that people will take out as much credit as lenders are prepared to give them – a lot of the 1950s and 1960s kitchen gadget, TV and car spending was financed by HP or similar – what about mortgage equity withdrawal (entirely done by the Boomers), which was so huge as to eclipse credit and store card debts, a fair chunk of which is taken out by young uns?

  • so why all Shapps ever did was to keep the bubble inflated and keep now two maybe three generations locked out?
