Strange. Only the YoY figure looks reliable, the other two are way out of whack.

  • With the powers in charge doing everything to maintain house prices maybe flatlining is the best we can hope for over the next few years.

If you can rent and still save some money then maybe not buying is best. But then with low interest rates until 2015 maybe its better to buy…decisions, decisions

  • tommyr – a 25 year mortgage taken out now will still have 22 years to run after 2015, obvious, but a sobering thought.

    The YoY trend is worrying.

    Dear Jim’ll Fix It,

Can you get this HPC started already?

  • wdbeast – very true and not surprisingly I have no clue what interest rates will do over that period.

What scares me is that it will take 10 years plus until the realisation that the people of the future can’t afford these high prices.

Students starting Uni now will leave with £50k+ debt thus it takes longer b4 paying off, saving for deposit and therefore get married/have family later etc and then buy house.

Therefore I think a proper house price correction will take a long time to materialise and even if I buy in 3 years time I could be one of the last fools to pay these silly high prices.

I’m noticing the same as Mark, prices in Chesire are certainly moving in the right direction, maybe the penny is starting to drop.

  • mark,

There is a 5 bed (or 6 bed if you accept that the “study” is actually a bedroom) modern terraced town house style property that just come onto the market in a reasonably nice area of South Tyneside. My wife asked me to guess at the asking price – I estimated £250K whilst the actual asking price via yourmove is £165K with no onward chain. Prices are definitely heading down in the NE of England.
