Whatever next?
That's one way to get on the property ladder: Family who cannot afford to buy home purchase lock-up garage instead
A growing family desperate for extra living space have found a unique way of getting on the property ladder - they've bought a £6,500 garage and turned it into an extra room. "The garage is just perfect. It gets us on the ladder. Hopefully it will prove to be a great investment. I would not use that kind of money for a deposit - definitely not until property prices come down some more - you don’t buy an asset at its most expensive."

This is satire, yes?
The first 13 minutes of that BBC programme are a good summary of how Home-Owner-Ism got started in the early 1970s and covers the first boom-bust period 1973 – 74. They play a Goodies sketch where house prices are going up so fast, the only thing they can afford is a dog kennel for £5,000.

At the end, the presenter says “Thatcher didn’t create Home-Owner-Ism, Home-Owner-Ism created her” (only he doesn’t call it by its name).

Astonishing piece of po-faced satire from the Daily Mail. Some real talent there ready to be snapped up by the good people at BBC Comedy. Truly priceless entertainment.
