Could the UK housing rental market be about to crack?

in my area Boston UK, there's an awful lot more properties sitting with TO LET on there signs, whereas before they would be snapped up. also theres considerable BTL and reluctant lanlord activity here keeping prices high for both rental and asking, in part this is due to a constant influx of EU immigrants and lack luster house building. i was told by a rental agent that before the crash it was maybe 80% EU renting 20% local renting, now its 50/50.
