Land Value Fun

Double room, NO mod cons

The chap involved received serious offers of £450 pcm to rent an 8 ft square shed in his back garden, that works out at £750 per sq yd per year. So the landowner gets £750 per square yard, and what is the tenant actually paying for..? "The Hungarian lorry driver ordered the shed for £800 and laid concrete for it to rest on. However, it was never installed. The full text of the advert read: 'Nice location near Florence Park, bus-stops and shopping centers are nearby. £450 per month all included."

  • The DM points out that he’s from the “eastern bloc”. Obviously no Englishman would do such a thing.

Twenty enquired – and presumably twenty said “no thanks”.

As comments point out, the real story is the number of “garden” shacks actually let out in parts of London. Google “suburban slumdogs”.

  • There’s someone on our road who sometimes puts garden waste in their wheelie-bin – you reckon the Daily Mail will pay me if I tip them off? He’s white and Engllish so probably not…

  • Yeah what is the problem with garden waste in wheelie-bins. I mean a bit more earth and foliage in our landfill sites would surely be a good thing??

  • Saw this in Metro this morning. Sadly nothing new to us HPCers. We’ve already had posts on here about garden sheds in other parts of the south east; there was even a BBC documentary showing the many shed-dwellers of Slough. This one’s a bit odd though. A quick glance online tells me you can rent a room in a house-share in Oxford for under £450pcm (£104pw), and it would probably be bigger than 8ft by 8ft. Why would you choose a shed instead?
