Who Will Stump Up To Boost The IMF's Coffers?

Mme Lagarde reiterated the gravity of the situation in saying, "The IMF, being an international institution, will appeal to its members to make their contributions. European partners will also have to do more".

  • mark wadsworth says:

The whole thing has plunged into insanity called “Sarko-nomics”, basically, the governments borrow money to bail out the banks and the banks are then ‘encouraged’ to lend the money back to governments to prop them up. To make the whole thing a bit more confusing, they use these intermediaries like IMF, ECB, EFSF but they are just accounting fiction masking the real accounting fiction that banks and governments are passing each other bits of paper with numbers written on them.

  • There was an interesting interview on CBS: http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=7389008n

She thinks Lehman, etc should have been bailed out. So the fact is she will need more money than Croesus before she is finished.

Those countries that have real money (not just a $1B here or there) are going to quickly find ways of making their excuses.
