Darling's memoirs: idiots or crooks?

Politician and bankers: idiots or criminals? Take your pick. And none better than the other.

  • I don’t actually mind Darling. I think he took his role very seriously, and I get the impression that he was trying to do his best for the UK…..unlike Gordon Brown – a very arrogant man – who was incompetent and only interested in doing things for his own benefit.

  • @1: exactly. that’s why the conclusions of his account are so striking. if you read darling between the lines his assessment is more damning than pytel’s (not that it exonerates him for what he was presiding over but still…)

  • I read this article. I read the article below it on the main page (Cameron to ignore ICB findings) and I think others reading this site must have reached the same inescapable conclusion. Then I read the comments section and realise some still see all this this in party political terms and even as if the personalities involved mattered!
This is about is power and control…but their power and control over you, not the other way around.
The political puppets exist to keep you beliving you call the shots every few years with something called a “vote”.You don’t. You just change the characters around. If your vote gave you control over anything else whatsoever you wouldn’t have one anymore.
Read the Cable quote on Pytels site again. Where does our loverly Vince say he agrees? Suppose he did. What does he propose to do about it? Nada on that. Why pretend, Vince? Because you gets your pay to keep them proles stupid, and it’s working, that’s why.

  • “We were (and still are) governed by people of very low intellectual capacity”.

To paraphrase Harold Wilson, the weak can last a long time in politics.

  • I agree with all of the above – especially that Whitehall is the single biggest barrier to democracy in this country.

I mean, why isn’t there a death penalty?

  • @Clockslinger “some still see all this this in party political terms and even as if the personalities involved mattered!”

    Exactly!

It’s time to put party tribalism behind us and wake up and see how the political elite (of all hues) are simply taking the p*ss.
