I should think so!!

  • Meanwhile, the chaps at RBS (or whoever the counter-party was) are rubbing their hands with glee at how much there bonus will be for ‘earning’ that $2 billion. It’s not a zero sum game, it’s a massive negative sum game, the losing bank pays no bonuses and the winning bank pays loads.

The bankers might as well just place bets at random with each other and then the blokes from the winning bank give the blokes from teh losing bank a share of their bonuses.

  • That doesn’t go far enough. I want the employees to pay back their salaries to cover OUR loss.

  • Yes Sib’s I saw that too. And it would seem applicable only to “employees whose bonuses are tied to the overall profitability of the division”

No doubt if they manage to claw the situation back to zero profit/loss for the year they would then be worthy of a bonus!

  • NO MARK.

Banking is not a zero sum game.

The cpty are not rubbing anything. They would have hedged their delta to be risk free.

  • Tell those banker chaps not to worry. Taxpayer will cover the losses AND pay their bonuses.

  • I suspect without mega bonuses on offer, these sorts of unauthorised trading disasters would be much less common.

Anyhow, I know someone who’s not going ot be receiving many Xmas cards this year…or at least ones not packed with semtex.

  • Not convinced (since 2008) that all these ‘bankster’ activities are actually producing something of social value to the majority.
If he had just ‘gone long’ on gold as i did… Hey presto.
