  • What a ridiculous argument. “People don’t want to live in villages; they prefer renting in the city.” Wrong. High prices in villages prove that demand is high. People are mostly renting through necessity, not through choice.

    Then there’s the minor issue of the five million people on council social housing waiting lists. I’m sure they prefer the renting lifestyle. Not that they appear on the radar of the average FT journalist anyway.
