This domino has a deflating impact on House Prices

  • It might be kind of hippyish, but if we stopped spending so much would we need ‘growth’ . Isn’t it this quest for constant growth and ‘improved figures’ that got us into this mess and made the likes of Fred Goodwin somekind of business Guru in the eyes of stupid politicians like Gordon Brown and bankers who oversaw his actions like Mervyn King. All of whom incidentally have come out of this with Gold Plated pensions and Knighthood’s etc.

Couldn’t we just be satisfied with improving efficiency and the quality of our products and services. Get these right and growth will likely happen all by itself.

I think we’re focussing on the wrong measure.

  • If we stop spending so much then surely some people somewhere get poorer because they are not getting the transfer of wealth.
Also without growth then surely money becomes worth less and less over a period of time because it is being inflated away.

I feel the model for current investment needs to change. Speculation needs to be taken out of the equation. We need to get back to basics and there is a lot to be said for Islamic lending practices.
