  • I’ve signed the petition. Every right-minded person on this site should also take the time, to sign it. It takes 5 minutes

Sadly the NIMBY lobby is more ubiquitous than I imagined. I’ve recently been astonished by the presence of a left wing (the only uniting factor I can identify) NIMBY lobby on this site. They quite unbelievably claim that we have enough houses already. I haven’t got to the bottom of their rational but hope to do so, with a bit more prodding. My suspicion is that they are employed in some capacity that predisposes them against any sort of development but that is just conjecture. If these people are remotely representative, we are now fighting the massed ranks of the tweed and eco sets. They might not have much in common but they are at least united by their love of champagne

This along with Shelter are just some of the voices ranged against people like the CPRE, otherwise known as Cramming People into what Remains of England.

  • voiceofreason has put up a link to a petition for more building. It is rather sad that HPCers are more interested in spamming the site with off topic nonsense that they are in the most relevant post in months. Put away your pro-gold, anti posh bloke, anti Euro and anti banker hobbyhorses and do something useful. This is a house price site and building houses will reduce prices and stimulate local economies

Flash, what you refer to as the “Tweed and eco-sets” are what I refer to as “Greenies and NIMBYs”, they are exactly the same people who vaguely want “everything to stay the same as it always was” and are both rampant hypocrites. And they both easily slot into the general category of Home-Owner-Ists.

As a matter of fact and logic, we do have plenty enough houses, they are just allocated badly (LVT would sort that out), but what do I care if people have second homes or holiday homes? Maybe we could get to the stage where everybody has a second home or a holiday home (and LVT would not only help people willing and able to pay for it to have a first home but a second home and a holiday home as well).
