I well remember the Not the Nine O’clock News sketch: “Come home to a real fire, buy a cottage in Wales….”
How much longer before people snap?

I used to live in the South Hams – in my hamlet 60% of the houses were 2nd homes – some only occupied for 4 weeks over the summer holidays and 2 weeks over Christmas – the rest of the time they stood empty, sad and unloved – I wouldn’t have minded so much if they were let out for holidays but just to sit there unused, while the bin men still had to check the bins each week and with many local families struggling to get an affordable home… just seemed wrong!

two of the houses were owned by city bankers – each probably purchased from one year’s bonus!
