Free advertising for Skipton Building Society (and subsidiary)

Lettings rise in Midlands and North

*Posted principally for this breathtaking piece of Doublethink* Kris Brewster, the head of products at Skipton, said: "Buy-to-let is a key component of a successful housing market providing a vital first stepping stone towards homeownership for tomorrow's first-time buyers – the oil that keeps the housing market machine moving."

  • “Experts also say strict lending criteria are stifling the market, making it hard for first-time buyers. Many who would once have bought are staying in the rental sector” – yes lets banish that dreadful MMR review conducted by the FSA and its horrible proposals, all this talk of responsible lending is nonsense – the sooner we get back to 9x salary multiple and 125% LTV the quicker the economy will recover and we can all be millionaires (Rodney). Interest rates at 0.5% for the next 300 years is also a must !

SBC, that is now The Official Line.

In Saturday’s Times, Anne Ashworthless said that…

    1. Lack of rental supply was pushing up rents (not really true, it’s lack of affordable houses to buy that’s doing that, if anything)
    2. THEREFORE it was difficult for young people to save up a deposit
    3. THEREFORE baby boomers who are “equity rich” would be doing young people a favour if they snap up all the cheaper homes and rent them out
    4. BECAUSE more rental supply would push down rents.

And she threw in the lie that the number of cash buyers is up from 25% to 40%, again not true, the number of cash buyers is down slightly and the number of mortgage buyers is down enormously, it’s the bottom bit of the fraction that has changed, not the top bit.
