When will they raise interest rates?

Factory gate inflation rate rises in December

Trash the pound and stuff gets more expensive. Who wants to hold the pound with RPI of 4.7%?

  • It is noticeable that the BoE has not put up interest rates in spite of the RPI beginning to soar. I think the BoE has twigged that setting base rates has no effect on real interest rates and therefore no effect on inflation. Of course they cannot admit they have no intention of raising interest rates, why pay for money when you can print it! As long as they can get away with failing to meet targets – the penalty is to write a letter to the Chancellor who told them to do this in the first place, they will do so since any inflation dilutes the debt.

  • If you happen to think food prices are high now, then just go to Sweden or Cyprus. It’s a sample of what to expect IMHO, i.e price increases of 30-50% compared to what you are seeing now. No supermarket is going to absorb or hold back this kind of increase.

  • I don’t understand why they don’t just convert all those Afgan poppy fields into corn, maize ect…. plenty for food and bio fuel. The way prices are inflating it must start to look attractive at some point.
