NIMBY of the week

High-speed route to falling property prices?

"It's no wonder that the county council do not want the public to know the likely sites for the proposed high-speed rail link in the county. It's a sure thing that property prices will crash. They must have remembered the price crash in the city 35 or so years ago when the Eastern Relief Road was the then threat – and all to appease the "Great Motoring Public". It was not, in the end, built – thank heaven – but it took years for house prices to recover. Strange to relate, however, that when I used to comment on planning applications in the city, and both myself and others quoted likely harm to property values, officers' recommendations to development control said that: "The effect on property values of the application cannot be a valid objection under planning law" (!)"

  • what they propose is pointless…..in eaurope the trains hit 300kmh…now that’s worth while

I see no point halving a journey to manchester when you can take a plane now

money could be better spent as usual

That is a classic MW. Presumably the corollary of that notion is that if they could remove all the existing unsightly transportation infrastructure from Leicester then house prices would treble; nay, quadruple! They’d live in a quagmire, mind; but it’d be des-res quagmire.

I can but only reserve my utmost scorn and contempt for these self-serving cretinous f*ckwits.

  • It’s a shame people don’t get angry over the real issues that effect all of us. No, our singular plots are the be all and end all.

Bring back old attitudes to owning property and being a part of community and I could live with the wallpaper and knowdown ginger.

PS, Chemtrails?? All declassified now. Been doing it since the 50’s, (as we knew) yet another small victory of many.

Nice knowing you ‘chemtrailsarenotaconspiracy’ wake up mate, it’s one more thing for the children.

  • I’m not a fan of high-speed rail for the UK. We’d do far better to focus on local transport – right now it takes as long to get from Heathrow to Kings Cross (a distance of 20 miles) as it does to get from Kings Cross to Peterborough (80 miles). More regional trams please, and regulated buses outside London too. Most cities in France connected by TGV also have decent tram and/or underground networks.

  • Be careful if you are thinking of buying anywhere within a mile of the west coast main line. I heard plans that part of this high speed railway line will go on stilts and the noise from the trains which will be heard for miles around!

OMG I live south of Leicester. MW where can I find that NIMBY’s charter that you have been talking about…

In reality house prices have been fairly stable here. Yep all of the houses that are for sale have been the same price for the last year or so at least. Reality will be dawning soon I think as some blaggards have been breaking ranks and cutting their prices lately.
