These guys have withdrawn literally hundreds of Euros!

Ooh, Aah! Cantona Fails to Bring Down Banks

Eric Cantona's call for millions of people to "cripple the global banking system" with mass cash withdrawals appears to have had little impact.

  • So much anticipation and hope, yet with so little end result.

  • While Man Utd fans were withdrawing funds the Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool fans were making fresh deposits.

  • who is going to listen to this guy?

come on it was never going to happen

now if Mervyn King stated “please there is no need to panic and withdraw money from banks” there will be queues from here to OZ to take money out of banks

  • Sometimes in life one experiences an emotion which is so strong that it is difficult to think, or to reason.

  • It never was going to have any impact because at present the masses still largely believe the baloney they hear about banks and the economy from “elite” mouthpieces like the BBC.

That will change, but not for a a while. The UK’s fiat money is trending towards its true value and the state is in the process of defaulting on its obligations, but this hasn’t registered yet.

By the time it does, the punters will have lost their money.

  • No need to withdraw your money, the government and banks are doing it for you.

Irony, still alive and well on hpc.

  • Too much hassle for most folks to bother with, now if enough people turned on a multi-kw appliance each at a coordinated time on a particular day now that would be impressive because the one thing the grid cannot handle is a rapid load change like that.

If Brown was still in charge we could call it ‘Brown out Brown’ and could have done it during his next budget speech, but alas the great man is no longer in charge so someone will have to think of another name.

  • Hold your horses here… BBC breaking news is that Bank of Ireland ATMs in both the North and South are down. Also, post office accounts in the UK are having problems!

  • Smugdog – thanks for your sympathy… On the plus side, we did OK in the test match!! And that is an absolute fact – no conspiracy there whatsoever.

  • Barclays cancelled my debit card without telling me. I withdrew 100 hundred pounds – ironically not in any political statement but because I need cash to see me through until my card is replaced.

What Peter says on 6, is valid in my view

Feels a bit like when folks on HPC were screaming about the injustice of bailing out the banking system using taxpayers money, yet nobody was protesting. …BUT fast forward several months down the line, when the austerity hits home and hits peoples jobs and pockets directly, and suddenly you have regular protests not seen in the UK since the 80s

.. the real question is when will this end? People have become more and more impoverished. And there is more on the way sadly. People do see (rightly or wrongly) the banking system, bonuses etc etc as being close to the heart of the problem. If the people are hurting too much then they will protest. They may very well direct their anger at their own banking system.

@9 – Spoken like a true TFH! Joking aside, I absolutely concur, because as rantnrave @10 states…

The yanks have a vested interest in euro banks looking shaky, as it will boost the dollar, so seems they’re happier to report this stuff. Meanwhile we get the Sky spin broadcast for the masses!

@14 – There is no sign of any link with Cantona though, it’s just a massive f4cking coincidence, so it is, so it is.

I think that’s the problem, unless you mean a bit of Satan worshiping on the Whitehouse lawn.

  • ….I really think there is a huge future for these stoves and I am sure that people will be turning back to solid fuel in days to come…..unless of course your unfortunate enough to live in a city where you can’t use them….but serves you right for abandoning nature’s greenery and rural life in the first place.
