  • @braindeed: as much as I would like it to happen, I doubt it very much

  • Am not sure I will believe the corner has been turned until white collar crime is properly addressed by more than (yet) another publicly funded round of bonuses.

Cannot for the life of me think of any other industry where a bonus is awarded for gross incompetence and probable criminal activity.Anywhere else it is abrupt dismissal or a jail sentence. Lunatics in charge of the asylum springs to mind.

  • White collar criminals set up the legal system and the top judges within it.

You might have the odd small fry billionaire go down, but that’s it.

  • “We Have To Throw Bankers In Jail Or The Economy Won’t Recover”

It’s not just the economy, it will be our whole way of life.

The banks will buy up (at rock bottom) and run the world more blatantly than they run it now.

A bank manager is one thing!

  • Never was so much ‘stolen from’ so many ‘by’ so few.

A handfull of token MP scapegoats are being dispatched. Maybe a few token bankers will too. But the the real culprits will never pay the price.

Whoever said that ‘crime doesn’t pay’? All depends on the crime i suppose!

  • There are no such things as conspiracies, so people keep telling me.

Engineered boom and bust is just crazy talk.

American CEOs are making more money now than ever.

  • It’s quite simple, they make the crime legal.

They made BTL legal in the name of ‘investing for ones future’ & ‘providing the community with much needed rental accomodation’ is another, using ‘short term tenancy agreements’. The drugs baryons (mp’s and bankers) then set about getting the pushers (mainly equity rich boomers) to do their dirty work.

    And all made quite legal.

  • str 2007 said ‘they make the crime legal’. It’s also a bit like Hitler’s ‘if the lie is big enough people will believe it because they themselves tell only little fibs, so they don’t believe that anybody has the barefaced gall to tell a big lie’. Similarly if the crime is big enough most people don’t see it as a crime because their conception of banditry is much more limited.

  • Now lads, lads. Things could be better, I know…….but where is the current equivalent of kristal nacht, Lebensraum, or the final solution.

We’re talking banking scams here, and no one is as yet worried about a knock at the door to cart us away to certain death for dissent. (well not round here, as I’ve heard)

Let’s keep language proportionate and not leave ourselves open to ridicule.

    Right first time.

icarus… “If you tell a big enough lie and tell it frequently enough, it will be believed.”

I didn’t want to go that far. Fear not ridicule as it is the lesser of many evils.

I think Icarus was just giving an example of a past ‘big’ lie to society, I don’t think he was linking the two in anyway other than that.

Very true what Icarus says – if the lies are big enough.

In this instance (housing Market) they’ve allowed a small portion of society a taste of the drugs. Maybe much as a drugs baron allows his dealers a free bag from time to time.
Those allowed a sample have relished it and justified it to themselves.

  • How we as a society find it acceptable to say no more building on fields, but then think multiple ownership and btl is good amazes me.

    Brainwashed.

Or maybe I have been to see this activity as wrong ?

    Big lies indeed, braingreed.

  • As str 2007 says @11. Any number of people might have made that point about the big lie (H L Mencken or Eric Blair come to mind), without their necessarily running a murderous totalitarian regime. Silly Braindeed.

Indeed, just that it was a poor analogy.

  • Actually it was written in the early ’20s and the ‘big lie’ he had in mind was the lie of the Marxists in blaming Ludendorff for the loss of WWI. It was a long time before he or anyone else started contemplating the ‘final solution’.

  • braindead – I’m still waiting for you to identify the parts of the collected works of Ponzi or Madoff that expressed these thoughts:

‘the broad masses….more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously’.

‘old Adolf is sometimes not given any credit for his contributions to things’ WTF does that mean? That quote was his explanation of what had happened in WWI, not a blueprint for something that wasn’t contemplated until almost 20 years later.
