Child benefit not mentioned

He Conservative Manifesto 2010

For the information of those that voted Tory at the last election: a quick search for "child benefit" in this pdf reveals 0 hits. Do you feel like fools now a benefit introduced in 1947 will be pulled to prop up foreign banks/lenders bad debt in UK housing. A total disgrace.

I voted conservative and I have two young children. It’s great to see money being saved in this way as the cuts only target high earners. I thought you’d be happy about this doomy but clearly you haven’t read the proposal at all. If labour hadn’t overspent by such obscene amounts, none of these cuts would be necessary. I feel however I’m talking to a particularly thick brick wall!

  • All child benefits should be slashed. People should pay their own way and not be rewarded for procreating. Likewise, income taxes should be slashed to more than make up for the benefit lost. Get the state off our back and out of our pockets.

  • Like TC, I voted Conservative and I see nothing wrong in this.

Can you honestly say that bankers or indeed any high earner needs child benefit?

Me too. At the moment I am just below the 40% tax bracket so won’t lose child benefit for my two kids. However we don’t need the benefit for day to day living, we just save it into an account for a college/safety fund.

I just saw someone complaining on the news that she needs it for daily costs even though she shops in Primark and has cheap cars. Is she mortgaged to the hilt perchance? I would have thought that abolishing anything that is propping up house prices would be good news to all on here.

  • Child benefit was/is meant to b e a universal benefit for CHILDREN. The fact of the matter is, both Cameron and Osborne lied, as they said on live TV that they wouldn’t touch it. What else have they lied about.

The fact is, voting Tory, you were suckered. They only represent the 1600 wealthiest families in the UK … not you. They
never will. They rely on your blind aspirartions.

    Doomwatch is correct.

Labour has also fallen down the same neo-liberal paradigm wormhole. Some wholesome and valid personal values have been twisted to meet the wealth and profit aspirations of a small minority.

It’s unfortunate. Values that are functional and valid within a household budget or small budget constrained community do not scale appropriately at the national economic level. Vested interests are using the misconceptions to their fullest advantage. Middle England is furiously fighting in their own name for other interests. It’s so clever it’s almost fantastical to believe.

Those who see the light have to talk in riddles, as Jesus spake in parables to avoid persecution. 😉

  • Thanks slartibartfast. Hopefully the previous Tory posters will reflect on the fact that it’s not a black n white world
of Labour/Tory, Right/Wrong. Politics and MPs are just the game board.

I am sick to the back teeth of these political cuts. David & George have gone a step too far with this one.

Daily Mail: Get the benefit scroungers! cut benefits! Cut Taxes! Cut the deficit! Support married couples!
Conservatives: we are removing child benefit for those wealthy enough to pay 40% tax.
Daily Mail: We didn’t mean our benefit! We didn’t mean support married couples who pay twice as much tax as where only one person works in a couple, or well off single mothers.

The media and people of this country are a disgrace and deserve everything that is coming to them. I’m off!

By the way, I am not affected by this, I am just disgusted by the media’s response, presumably because it is their state benefits that are being cut and it is them that are up in arms. The government should have just told everyone everything all at once and drowned this out in everyone else complaining about their special interest being cut, it does serve them right for lying in the run up to the election about what needed to be done though.
