Sweet. I have made the same point myself somewhere recently.

Very good, took me a paragraph or two before I realised it was a lampoon. D’oh.

Asked to explain, the spokesman continued, “Luckily, the public doesn’t understand that the rent we landlords charge tenants is made up of two parts. Some of it is a payment for what we actually provide, including the buildings and the work needed to keep them in good order, and that is perfectly fair. But because some locations are worth more than others, we also charge for that. Really it is just land value. It is created by the community and it is a benefit that we receive just by being landowners. We don’t earn it as the money just comes in anyway. But we landlords lump together the two charges – for land and for buildings – so that tenants don’t realise they paying for both.”

Sounds like a Bremner, Bird & Fortune skit.

  • LOL!
Yes, that whole site is a socialist farce, because unworked land is not worth much money, and work costs money, you can figure out the rest: http://www.landvaluetax.org/

Infrastructure is a Red Herring, and would be better run by cutting out the squatter middleman, on what was public land, the government, a corporate conglomerate, with all that entails.

The free market determines real value not the incompetent government (e.g. the Green report gave many examples of just how sloppy government is at determining value), thus LVT would be a failure just from mismanagement, left alone the subsiding premises it rests upon.
