Banks say, just let us do our thang man!

FSA faces opposition to ban on 100% mortgages

The City watchdog has met with opposition to its proposals to ban riskier "100 per cent mortgages" which require borrowers to put down little or none of their own equity, it said today.

  • They should have nationalised the banks properly when they had the chance.These student lefties who grew up to beome Labour politicians thought they were showing maturity by ditching all their socialist “principles” (grounds for posturing) but discovered too late that that the older radicals were right all along.
    A lot of this shows the perils of bank competition: force them to compete and they just get reckless and lend to the marginal and plain dishonest.Better an old -fashioned deadly dull State monopoly in commercial banking with computer links to tax records to cut risk and encourage people to make proper tax returns.
    Also a stiff land value tax to keep the banks’ lending to the property market within reasonable limits.

  • Exactly we should let the banks fail to teach them a lesson. But because we bailed them out they have learnt nothing anmd will continue with lax lending becuase the govt will cover any losses. Shameful.
