You can fool some of the people…

House price rise hopes boosted as recession ends

Sharp upswing in consumer confidence before official figures show economy is growing again. Most Britons believe that house prices will rise this year as the country awaits official confirmation that the worst peacetime recession is finally over. A survey by Rightmove, the property website, found that 53pc in the UK believe house prices will rise over the next 12 months, compared with just 10pc at the beginning of last year.

LOL. Last year 90% thought they wouldn’t rise. What does that say about the 53% that think it will rise this year?

  • I like the way they can convert “53% of people who completed the RightMove survey” into “Most Britons”. Not really the same is it?

  • Prices are currently rising but only 53% of people expect this to continue. Hardly great news for the housing market.

  • I think house prices will triple over the next few years – again.

These surveys of public opinion are as much use as a chocolate tea pot. They simply match what the market has done over the last six months…

Hmmm… the survey presumably accessible via rightmove’s website… visited only by people looking for a house…. They really have their customer insight nailed don’t they!! Be interesting to put the same survey on this site and see what figure that throws up…

  • The abandoned mineshaft that is HPC, that once held so much hope.

But now, the few remaining hardy souls huddle together for warmth,
    comfort and salvation.

Soon the lights will flicker, the air become thin and silence will prevail.

A plaque will be hung in their names.

They came together with bluster and fight, but passed away in despair.

  • smugdog, if HPC is a mine shaft (2 words you uneducated dullard; public school and work at Poxtons?) you
are the canary, and the LIBOR cat has just caught your scent. I look forward to blood and feathers all
    over the pit walls. :)))))))))))

  • A property I was thinking of buying has just had the asking price reduced by £5,500 in a matter of a few months. That is a drop of 4.5%…I thought the original asking price was too high so I suppose that makes me smarter than 53% of British public 🙂

  • I’m reading this site less and less … not because I don’t believe there will be a “downward adjustment”.

We’ve got to avoid being baited and making ourselves look like a lot of wide-eyed loons out of touch with reality.

With or without Smugs’ limericks and riddles – the only answer is time. It’s so volatile “out there” at the moment, it’s really anyones guess. With the cards most people can see – it certainly isn’t going to be booming. So no need to panic – as Douglas Adams would say.

Someone has nowhere better to be than what they consider to be an abandoned mineshaft?

Reality? Growler, reality is only perception in these compromising times.

I would have thought this site big enough to ‘stay the course.’

These are the times for wide-eyed loons to combat the wider-eyed loons. Persecution has beaten better men.

  • And in a few years when the lights do finally flicker, the air becomes thin & silence prevails, the nadir of the HPC will have arrived.

Then I’ll pile in again 🙂
