Whereas in America house prices keep falling

Associated Press via Yahoo: Median home prices fell nationwide in 3Q

A real estate group says home prices fell in eight out of every 10 U.S. cities in the third quarter of this year as heavily discounted distressed sales made up 30 percent of all deals.

Surely this is because in the US the government hasn't got an election coming?

Presumably Mr Obama doesn't quite so keenly felt the need to instruct his central bank to print a limitless supply of money and launder it to him as "gilts" so that he can pump it into key psychological indicators (stock market and house prices) in the hope of a) getting re-elected, or b) setting up a scorched-earth policy ahead of the opposition getting in.

Not normally a fan of the yanks, but at least their press know how to use a median average, and put it in a headline. A median is a better representation of a average than a mean when it comes to representing true house prices. Cant remember ever reading any mainstream news article that was wiling to deviate from the tyranny of the mean in blighty.

Down with the mean up with the median.

and on a related note, has anyone noted that Mandelson is going to be the new leader of the Labour party?

Last time round, it was "vote Blair and you'll get Brown", this time it's "vote Brown, get Mandy".

If you think it sounds far-fetched, can you honestly see a more likely outcome?
