Is bank nationalisation needed?

Bank nationalisation not needed

Lord Mandelson has reiterated that the government has no plans to nationalise the banking sector. His comments come two days after the government increased its stake in Lloyd Banking Group to 65% from 43%.

  • “has no plans”?

I had no plans to be made redundant last time I looked at my diary.

  • Well, i saw the interview… it wasn’t unequivocal, by any means. A careful ‘politicians answer’.. and I can’t really blame him on this. If there were plans, or even highly probables that they would need to then why waste time and money on the half-way house. I suppose the half-way house might be a tokenistic attempt to reassure the right wing voter and markets but at any rate… Mandy’s statement is a hot air publicity statement for the current thinking, it will reveal nothing about future plans, although clearly they are in place.

  • ”……..future plans, although clearly they are in place.”

If this government had any sort of coherent plan, that would be something. As far as I can see, they simply blindly (and probably inappropriately) react to any ‘unforeseen’ emergency that comes their way.

  • stillthinking says:

Nationalisation given their existing holdings is a small point. The most likely explanation for not going the whole hog is to keep the default option open, which is good IMO.
