High Speed Reflation

Network Rail promises £35 billion railway revolution

The head of Network Rail promised today the biggest expansion of the national railway system since the days of the great Victorian engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel. "Stations will be transformed and new ones built. Speeds will be increased. Bottlenecks will be unblocked. Thousands of new trains will debut, services will run more frequently at weekends and at bank holidays."

  • Nothing new here. These are all projects that were announced years ago.

  • Of course if these improvements were to take place( difficult to believe with all this overblown Apprentice style self-promotion),house prices and the price of land might rise a bit in the areas affected. Then you could tax the land and finance local services. But you can’t do the simple, bloody obvious because….well you can’t ,that’s all.(Its better all round that the property prices benefit the existing owners and new people can’t move into the area. Its the way we do things.Trust us we’re the ruling-class)
