RBS ends sponsorship.

Williams F1 hit by RBS cutbacks

The Royal Bank of Scotland is to end its sponsorship of the Formula One team Williams as a result of the economic downturn, BBC Sport has learned. The partnership, which began in 2005, will conclude when the current contract finishes at the end of the 2010 season. The move is part of RBS proposals to cut its funding of British sport by a massive 50% by 2010.

  • who stole my pension? says:

Why is the government (tax payer) still paying 50% in sponsorship? Footballers are like bankers, they already get loads of money for poor performance!

  • I think RBS have had enough publicity at our expense to last the next 20 years. How dare they waste more money on what are effectively corporate days out disguised as advertising.

  • For the third time of asking will they remove their ridiculous logo from the middle of the rugby pitch.
It’s a constant reminder of their greed and stupidity and completely spoils the game.
Move the logo to the toilet block where it belongs.

  • The government doesn’t want to set a precedent for breaking contracts; unfortunately that means the taxpayer is effectively funding a lot of sponsored events and teams where multi-year contracts were signed, with no exit clauses.
