Very wrong
Bush gives Blair highest US civilian honour
Whatever next? Why didn't they just give awards to each other when they were in power. I find it rather disconcerting that Blair, a former Prime Minister of the UK, is receiving awards from a foreign country. I like America and Americans, don't get me wrong, but considering the current state of the UK... Wrong, wrong and wrong. This is totally wrong. What a git.

Also, it’s embarassing. What on earth does he want an award for? Can he truly be that shallow? He was the Prime Minister of the UK, but he is grubbing around looking gongs.
Truly humiliating.

Makes perfect sense given how Blair sold us down the river. It’s just so shameless – if I were him I wouldn’t be able to look at myself in the mirror each morning – but then I’m not a psychopath unlike those two.

I don’t think this is anything to get upset about, personally.
Firstly, the award is coming from George Dubya Bush – hardly a popular, wise and benevolent statesman. Secondly, he’s not even awarding it as President. How sad and pathetic is that?
As Matt Lucas so pertinently said “I really admire that Will Young for coming out of the closet after he won Pop Idol”. George Bush has done the same.
This award, and Tony Blair’s acceptance of it has pathetic stamped all over it. Two ex-statesmen giving each other awards? Toe-curlingly embarrassing for both countries.

paul ~ “Toe-curlingly embarrassing for both countries.”
so, what’s wrong with ‘us’?
This toe rag was our PM for ten years!
and allowed Brown to create our own crisis within a crisis.
Onlookers, and there are billions of them, must think we’re bonkers ~ or worse
paul says:
We can’t stop idiots giving awards to idiots.
But I notice it hasn’t gained much press attention.

yes paul, but can we stop idiots becoming prime ministers ~ look what we have now!
James says:
bally hell, there’s a bunch of idiots on this board. Bush is still president. BO gets signed in next week, I think. Moreover, Blair was offered this ‘honour’ while he was PM, but declined it as he didn’t think it right to accept whilst still in office.
Browneconomy says:
Its customary in the land of “Freedom & Democracy” for the incomming President to grant a blanket Presidential Pardon to the previous incumbent. Yes, Bush will be granted a “get out of jail” free card for the war in Iraq
In this context a little “doggie treat” for his “poodle” is not very newsworthy!

Well I don’t know about you but I certainly didn’t vote for Brown!
I just think it is lucky that Hitler isn’t alive as I am sure that he would at least be giving teflon a “we’re best mates” mug or similar. Perhaps a “you’re war didn’t kill as many as mine” tea towel?
inbreda says:
Damn – grammar fail. Bad apostrophe. Sorry.
uncle chris says:
Hmmmm – an award tainted with the blood of British, American and Iraqi troops and innocent civilians – why would he even want to accept them. When is this man going to be tried for war crimes? It was pathetic seeing him leaping up to the click of Bush’s clicking fingers.
mrmickey says:
Yes Blair deserves it he’s doing such a good job as Middle East peace envoy, and he’s being lined up as the next EU President, whatever that entails.
Mickmas12 says:
Reminds me of the old DASTARDLY and MUTLEY hanna barbarra cartoon where Mutleys tail spins when he gets his medal and he bleats GIMMME GIMMME GIMMME.In fact the more i think about the likeness of these two characters the closer they seem to be…CATCH THAT PIDGEON, CATCH THE PIDGEON NOWWWWW!

What’s wrong with all you lot today, a good master always throws his dog a bone!
sold out says:
“Blair took time out of his schedule as the official envoy of the Quartet in the Middle East – on behalf of the United Nations, the US, the European Union and Russia – to receive the medal.”
says it all about Blair, so called middle east envoy whilst missiles and phosphor bombs rain down on the people of Gaza, he gets his medal from Bush.
Tony Blair, Rock star,Prime Minister,BTL’er,Middle East Envoy You are a Failure.

The US President has the power to pass Presidential Pardons – in effect to grant himself a “Get Out of Jail Free” card.
(Sadam Hussein didn’t!!!)
In the light of Bush’s power of life & death a little doggy treat for him favourite poodle in no surprise
Bet Bush gets an honour in next Queen’s Birthday /New Years Honours list
davecrash says:
Blair recently got his nose back in the trough as a middle east peace envoy but while hundreds are dying in Gaza he’s busy collecting bob-a-job badges for services to lame duck presidents.
Say it all really about his real motives and what a spineless scum bag he is.
lierbag says:
It’s an award for his massive achievements: creating a permanent domestic terrorist threat where none existed before; for channelling huge sums of money into military expenditure, which might have been spent on better things, and for helping underwrite US expansionism – using UK taxpayer’s money – for the exclusive benefit of Haliburton and other Stateside mega-corporations. Now stop carping!
rumble says:
Awww, I think it’s sweet. There will be a film about this – “Brokeback Militarism”.
