Good news: rents in my area are down about 40%

Landlords must get smart to attract tenants

Article arguing that flood of rentals onto the market is forcing landlords to update properties and lower prices. The estate agent that rented out the house I live in is quoted as saying that rental prices have fallen about 40% over the past year. Wonder if I should email this article to my landlord?

The base-rate reduction and the repossessions rescue package should be seen as an upbeat better late than never..

This ‘should’ should be seen as no more than a ‘wishful should’.

  • rents are still pretty low (Price To Rent Ratio) compared to house values, If they are falling then i suppose house prices need to fall even further..

Rent should cover mortgage, plus 15% for repairs, plus 5% above base rate for profit, IMHO. I think that prices have further to fall than rent, hence them falling faster, coz landlords can’t afford a kick of paint on today’s rent/mortgage ratio’s.
