City jobs axe spells end of line for great trains boom

The three employ 11,000 staff. Even if the Stagecoach cutbacks are as little as 5 per cent, that will mean more than 500 jobs face the chop.

  • japanese uncle says:

Train fares must and will go back to 1995 level. Anyone fit enough and still keeping job try cycling to work (staff at my local Halfords says they are extremely busy these days!), while hundreds of thousands will no longer need to commute at all, let alone steep decline in the demand for non-commuting seats as people will no longer afford to make leisure trips by train, but coaches. (So Stagecoach will be fine) I can envisage 50% fare reduction easily. Railway CEOs salary will also have to get back to 1995 level. For too many years this economy has rewarded utter incompetence and mismanagement by huge bonuses.
