How very very interesting
The Irish solution: unlawful, beggar-thy-neighbour and short sighted, but apart from that OK
As Irish Nationwide qualifies under this scheme we now represent the safest place to deposit money in Europe with a AAA guarantee from a country with the lowest national debt to GDP ratio of any AAA country.

I disagree so strongly with this article. Banks need our cash, but they won’t pay a decent interest rate and the gov won’t guarantee the deposit if the bank falls. The banks present a monopoly of low interesrt rate insecure savings accounts, they attack the Irish that will provide some guarantee. Crash Gordon criticised the Irish yesterday and now this idiot in the FT. The bank that pays the highest interest rate and is guaranteed, Northern Rock, is now over-subscribed and closed its doors to more savers. If you need our money pay us for it and offer a guarantee!
