9.5% food inflation in comparison to 100% house price inflation

Food inflation

I wonder if the ritz is running the same % rise as netto, the mail said 10% the manchester rag 7, what is really happening in the fields,where is the king? this is worse than a house price crash. its not yet zimbabwe or iran but winter is coming.....

  • Who cares about the price of food? The CPI says that inflation is low and everything’s hunky dory.

  • FFS, it’s a 10% rise after several years of cheap-as-chips food and farmers committing suicide every week because they couldn’t afford to make a living. Think of them next time you complain about the price of steak.

    There’s still food on the shelves. This isn’t “not yet” Zimbabwe: it’s simply not going that way. For a more realistic worst-case comparison, look at the Argentine economic crisis (1999-2002), where the percentage of the population classed as in “extreme poverty” more than doubled in two years. Within five years, it was back to where it was.
