18.6% off semi-detatched prices in the last quarter

Northern Ireland House Prices Fall By 4%, Sales Plunge By 50%

"The 4 percent drop was largely ``because the apartment sector, highly represented in the sample, appeared to be running counter to the overall trend, buoyed up by new high-profile schemes in Belfast,'' the report said. Semidetached house prices fell by 18.6 percent to 191,166 pounds in the second quarter from a year earlier, the sharpest decline of any area, the report said. Terraced and detached houses fell by 10.5 percent to 176,915 pounds and 311,804 pounds respectively."

  • Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe the 18.6% figure refers to a price comparison between this current quarter and the same quarter 12 months ago, rather than an 18.6% drop within the quarter.

  • I drove through Northern Ireland last week. I know its a cliche, but the amount of property for sale was breathtaking, exceeding even my expectations.

It’s the same across the border – there are whole estates of new build detached mansions lying empty. It’s incredible. Every single road has several for sale signs on it.

I stayed at a relatives in Donnegal in their new detached house in a development of about 15/20 houses. I asked them what their neighbours were like and they said they have never met any.

  • Thomas Andrews says:

Lies dammed lies and statistics. I had my (new) apartment valued about 2 months ago, and it was aprox 25% under what it would have been last year. Also have a new semi on the market since last September, with only 2 viewings, and no offers…this already on a 15k reduction on the original valuation!!
Don’t know where these poeple get their figures from..you might as well read ‘The Beano’.
Wake up and smell the coffee!!
