Hat eating

Eating hats

I know this is a bit left of centre but when will this overweight and overpaid sloanie start eating her hat! Even Fionnuala Earley is basically saying that we are in a house price crash situation. www.housepricecrash.co.uk is finally vindicated and we it's users are not "talking down the market". She, and all the other property pornstars are as responsible as the programme makers and even the money lenders in over egging the cake and letting the housing market blow up get to silly preportions. The jig is up Allsop, start eating bee-atch!

  • I remember when her and phil (mostly krusty) got a guy called Herewood to pay 140k more (on a 650k home) than the nearest bidder for their “dream” home in a sealed bid situation about 3 years ago. If thats not adding fuel to the fire I don’t know what is.

  • Does anyone remember when she said she would eat her hat?

I’d like to know how badly she got it wrong. It’s one thing saying that “property won’t fall” 10 years ago, but I think it was a lot more recent than that…

  • Would like to think how these people feel now that went on to their show to buy overpriced property just for the cameras. Most must be thinking they were had by them, not to worry with a bit of luck we wont be seeing their likes on the box for a very long time…

It was much more recently that that numpty Mickey Clark also said on R5 that houseprices couldn’t possibly crash……..’its all down to supply and demand’. Really, these people should be ashamed of themselves. We should start a hall of shame for them all.

  • I actually dont blame her. Although shes a bit dim, she is basically a victim of the times in which we live. I really think she believs what she says. Hopefully she will go into the market and buy a few properties at these prices because she should put her money where HER mouth is rather than suggesting other people do.

How many people do you know who accept AS FACT that house prices ALWAYS go up, that renting is throwing money away etc. It is no surprise that the education of this country doesnt deal with Economic history in as much depth for this view to be challenged. Having said that perhaps thats changed and the younger generation are voting with their feet because they know this stuff. OR more likely they just cannot physically afford to get on the “ladder” (snake) and now have unsurmountable barriers to entry.

As for Mickey – he commentates on what has happened in the market, after it happens thats his job. Fair dues he’s not meant to be a forecaster but if he is put on the spot he is bound to come up with the sane hackneyed line.

    Any teachers want to comment?

  • The ‘eat my hat’ comment came from a radio phone-in back in September 2004. Many callers on the show (some affiliated to this website) where predicting a house price crash back then. From Setember 2004 prices rose steadily for a further 3 and a half years. So Kirsty was 100% correct.

In order for Kirsty’s statement to be proved wrong (and Kirsty to be served hat with chips) property prices would need to fall below September 2004 levels – and even a 35% drop would not be enough for that.

Prices are finally falling and it’s no bad thing but those who have been predicting a crash for the past four years cannot claim to be ‘correct’. It reminds me of the saying – even a broken clock tells the right time twice per day.

Some people have tried to defend this woman in other forums and I’m sorry but Hitler believed what he said also. Look at the point I made @2. She actually convinced this Herewood chap that he needed to put in a “really good bid” to ensure he got his dream home. Now this dude was obviously loaded (or stupid, or both!). But the net effect of this transaction is that every other numpty with a gothic contry house in the area said to themselves (when looking at the figures generated from statistics that these property experts help push up) “Oh my house is no longer worth £xxx it’s actually worth much more”. She actually got this chap to bid nearly 30% more than the nearest other bidder!

Property expert – the woman is as thick as two short ones with as much expertise in the financial aspects of the property market. She and others like her are simply another set of parasites that make this country just plain naff sometimes.

  • im not defending her per se – im really attacking our society of which she ios a product. Now you or i can argue how grotesque. I have posted here before that i think she is silly (and thats to put it kindly) . You are right about the market – prices are controlled at the margin – posted yesterday.

She – like every other buyer – makes money in a bull market and loses it (and possibly) more in a bear market. If she sold at the top she might have some respect well from me anyway. Nooneo if you are going to respond its best to read the whole of the post and understand the context of it ;-).

And guess what, she’s advising the Conservative Policy on housing. Now that’s unbelievable.

If David Cameron gets into power he has already demonstrated he has no better idea than the lot we’ve got.

I think Vince Cable is about the only one who spoke out about the over inflating bubble – several years ago.

Given these bubbles, now created by both main parties bring this country to its knees.

I can’t see why the Lib Dems are such a bad option.

They should get their marketing campaign underway. They’ve got enough to shout about.

I know she’s a product of society (if a very priviledged section of) but she also gives her judgemnts and comments with an air of confidence that you can’t buy. But it doesn’t dtract that this awful woman and here gym loving cohort have wandered around britain for the past 7 or 8 years basically talking up the market. The probably have always, always known that this crash was the inevitable end to the boom, but they just want their 15 minutes and the chance to make a few bob. Greed in any form isn’t particularly attractive and she personifies greed.

    Str 2007…

I would wager that by the time of any general election that Cameron and co will have dropped this woman like the sack of potatoes she looks like. Liabilty is the word here, and when the british public start wondering where all the profit from their dream homes have gone the will start looking for the responible ones, you can’t put a face to a bank, but everyone of voting age who would like to not live in a tent knows Krusty and her swaggering views on the property market. Kirsty Allsop the modern face of greed in britain 2008. Nice lippy, shame about the economics

    What the 10 gallon version?

    @str 2007…

The lib dems are just slightly better than the other two bunched of poli-ticks. I have a soft spot for Mr Cable and thought he should have been leader, but no they went for the good looking one. I also have a soft spot for Kirstie also, down the end of my garden, underneath my compost heap, should do nicely!

  • What about so called financial advisers who were urging people to sell their houses and go into rented as far back as 2004 ? Anyone following that advice will have lost tens of thousands of pound and those losses will NEVER be recovered.

Why is Kirsty so villified for (correctly) predicting a rising market for the past few years while those talking it down all that time (and being proved wrong year after year) are seen as saints ?

If you followed Kirsty’s advice back in 2004 (the date of the eat my hat quote) you would be now sitting on a nice lump of equity. Instead you are now praying for a 35% crash just to get back to where we were four years ago.

  • The ‘Eat My Hat’ quote in Full –

Simon Mayo (reading a listeners email) – “James Rob says how can kirsty and phil say that house prices aren’t falling when Rightmove have reported house price falls for the last two months and this month the Halifax have reported the first since 2002 and the biggest fall since 2000. House prices ARE falling not ‘going up more slowly'”

Kirstie Allsopp “July and August – thats all I’d say. School holidays – they traditionally fall at this time of year. September/mid-September is when the market comes back up. If it doesn’t come back up this time, I’ll eat my hat”.

So Kirstie didn’t say that property would never fall – she said they would come back up ‘this time’ (September 2004). And she was spot on.

  • nooneo – i think you give her more credit than she deserves. BTW Vince can say that because he knows the Libs will never gain power. His voice is seen by the masses as a bit of i told you so, no politically the public want someone on their side.

Ask yourselves this. If fred H is right then what difference would it have made who was in power – aside perhaps from the size of the bubble. If the tories were in (and im not a labour supporter) then i think it naive to think we wouldnt be where we are now, and that labour would be as popular – its the economy stupid!

Are you prepared to eat your hat if they do recover the money. In three years time they might look like the sensible ones.
